Once trail and once you pass big Jim there are spots when you have to really stop and make sure you're still on the trail. Got to see the Burro at the end and we logged 14.25 miles and not sure where we got off trail at but it was a great day hike for the group.

HikingGreat!

On my Garmin, it was 12.2 miles and 2437 vertical feet with minimal off-track excursions. We hiked the Walkin' Jim trail counter-clockwise. Much easier to follow the trail on the way out. The peak climb was fairly well marked with cairns. Met one other hiker. Incredibly remote and quiet in the back part with no off-road vehicles out on a Wednesday. Blissful!

HikingGreat!

Great trail with awesome views at the top of Lake Pleasant and the Hells Canyon Wilderness. Suggest keeping the map handy. Cairn placements were helpful but found it challenging to stay on the trail. Recommended!

Great trail. Lost the trail a few times but no big deal with AllTrails maps. Highly recommend.

Trail is longer than 11.5 miles. More like 15 miles per my iPhone's pedometer. Maybe the loop is 11.5 round trip. The north trail is much easier to follow. Definitely helped to have app open on the south trail. Trail the last 1/4 mile to top is more of a scramble since the trail is elusive. 6 hours total hike time, with only 20 minutes at summit. Other than that, beautiful trail with lots of solitude! Will do it again.

Wow what an incredible hike!! So pretty and didnt see one other person on hike. Trail is hard to follow, make sure to constantly keep your eye out for stacked rocks whenever confused and it will keep you on trail. Download trail as well. Beware of jumping castus, we both got stuck. Trail is overgrown with lots of the prickly weeds so wear pants, preferable thick if you dont want to be pulling prickly weeds out every couple minutes out of you shoes. Views were well worth the castus, prickly weeds, and losing trail struggles. Plan for 7 hour-ish hiking at a good pace with stops for pics, water, losing trail, etc.

Well worth it - hiked counter clockwise on the loop and up to Big Jim. We were the only people on Big Jim trail (if you can call it a trail) loved the challenge of finding our way via cairns and views were incredible. Last 3 miles we were met with a sprinkle of rain and full blown double rainbow. GPS read 14.2 miles total- took us 6 hours with a 1/2 hour break on the top to snack and take in the views. We will be back!

Amazing hike! The valley floor was blanketed with pink purple and yellow flowers ; gorgeous weather ( early April ); solitude ( met only one couple during the entire 13+ miles). The view from the peak was breathtaking; we could see lake pleasant and San Francisco peaks in the distance. Heard wild Burros. Came across a rattle snake ( did it ever create a ruckus with its rattling !). Got lost here and there - but thanks to all trails easy enough to get back on track. The trail goes over rocky areas ; through meadows; in and out of Castle Creek ! The walking Jim trail is moderate ; the hike to peak 3465 is somewhat hard. Some scramble over rocks at the end. Definitely need long pants ; 3 liters of water ; all trail map downloaded ; good supportive shoes ( trail can get rocky). There are rocks piled in clusters as trail marking throughout the trail. All in all quite a fun adventurous hike !

Pretty hike, but easy to lose the trail. We hiked up to Big Jim, but ended up losing the trail around the saddle and turned back. Lots of wildflowers, birds, bees, and sunshine! We saw a few donkeys along the road in and some squirrels. Make sure to do it in the early spring so it's not too hot, but you still get the good view. Another little tip - wear long pants! Plenty of opportunities to scratch yourself up. There were a few other groups of people out there as well. This hike took about 5.5 hours overall with plenty of snacks and 5L of water. Enjoy!

This is a good trail. I enjoyed being out there early and finishing early. I hike alone so the quietness was a outstanding. You have to pay great attention to the trail because it is narrow and in some places it is overgrown. I did not make it all the way up to Big Jim but I hiked the 9 mile circumference of the Walkin’ Jim trail.
