Directions from Clarksdale: Take the road to Tutzigoot Monument. After crossing the Verde River bridge turn left immediately on the road that parallels the river. This becomes FR 131. Take this road for approximately 10 miles to the Sycamore Canyon overlook and the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness boundary just east of the Packard Ranch.

~5 mi off road to get to TH. Not recommend unless 4/all wheel drive. AllTrails Pro a must for sycamore creek wash crossing. Spent long time trying to figure how to cross Sycamore Creek without getting wet - have to get wet and ultimately no big deal with synthetic shoes/ socks. Definitely strenuous hike. ~2.5 mi up to get to Packard Mesa. Even worse coming down same 2.5 mi. Trail completely loose midsized rocks. Almost turned my strong ankles ~4 times coming down with hiking poles, which highly recommend. (Why 2 stars). Packard Mesa well marked with Cairns so didn’t have to keep checking AllTrails Pro. Mesa had beautiful views and Juniper Forests Never found house/ mine in picture, which was my reward. Had to turn around at Sycamore Tank, which really is pond due to huge heard blocking 2nd gate and Bull yelling snorting at me. Easily drank 3 liters of water on this ~71F degree day. Required for high altitude and full sun exposure. Wore $10 45 Uv protection hat from Amazon-

Good trail but it’s washed out in sections. Use the app or a GPS. I’d of preferred the GPS. Only four stars because of the trail was not as clear as other sites have described and no one has reviewed it here.
