Beautiful hike. It is very remote so I would suggest taking a partner. The dirt road “IS” drivable With a non-4x4 vehicle as of March 2019. The road is maintained often.

This trail is in the Juniper Mesa Wilderness. The vegetation varied so much on this trail it felt like three trails in one. It begins with a moderate ascent, followed by some steep switchbacks that take you up to the Mesa. On the Mesa you will travel north a long stretch of level trail before dropping down into a canyon. Once in the canyon the long stretch is dominated by ponderosas until you reach the parking for the other end of the trail. The long stretches up in the Mesa and down in the Canyon were unvaried so they seemed very long. Overall this is a beautiful hike. But even more so was the VERY scenic drive to get there which was more inspiring to me than the trail itself. I included some photos while en route.
