Drove all the way there (almost an hour) and it’s closed!

Great small hike for young kids. Under an hour from Tenpe, lots of trees and grass and hoping for a wild horse spotting next time!

Watch out for fallen tree blocking the river about 1/4 mile upstream from Needle Rock. The tree is blocking most of the flow. You have about a 5' opening on river left. We hit it on our tandem kayak and got caught up on a large branch immediately down river after we were flushed under the large tree.

Grew up out here and spent many hours at the river. Not what it used to be. It has been trashed over the years by visitors. With the added railing there is far less accessibility to the more beautiful parts of the river.

No real hiking paths. We ended up just walking around and exploring. It was nice area but prob wouldn’t go back.

Mostly just a nature walk through a picnic area

It was actually fairly tough because there was a lot of loose sand to slog through. Didn’t see any horses but saw evidence of them. Pretty deserted early in the morning. Nice drive through Tonto Forest to reach the trail and beach.

Wonderful area and if you are lucky you will get to see the wild horses in the area!
