As of June 2020, the trail is closed due to Bush Fire. Please be aware that the turn off to FR27 is not marked but your GPS will accurately take you to the Trailhead. It just won’t look like a parking lot. Just an overly wide area. Pull in towards the Beeline or against the fence with the sign reminding you to close the gate as you enter FR27. For off roaders: If you pick this trail up from the highway the technical driving is just under 5 miles. The rest of the trip to the top is a maintained FR. From the beginning it's a consistent, entertaining challenge to pick the right lines. If you're not paying attention, there are some roll over opportunities that could be pretty disastrous. High clearance and 4WD is a must.

One of the Phoenix gem must-dos, although a little chard after the largest fires in history

This is one of my favorite training places here in Arizona. Planning a great hike this weekend. I was very disappointed with the admin of All Trails to purposely put false information on this site in order to scare people. It saddens me to see normally kind people steep those levels! It took a 2 minute phone call to find the truth. Stick to trails and keep out of politics! Be better

This trail, as is the case for most of the trails in the Tonto NF, has NEVER been closed due to the COVID-19 virus as of 4/16/2020. Bogus info from AllTrails.

A fun out and back (aka up and down) trail. We started at the top as you can drive up, and hiked down and then back up again. A good training hike for longer hikes.

Moderately difficult OHV trail with amazing views. Had to put into 4x4 a few times and definitely earned some light scratches. We went up the main road to the lookout and went back down this way with a small group. Would 100% recommend.

This trailer is relatively boring but if you need to get in a lot of elevation training then the road is a good way to do it. Ultrarunners or other people that like to run for 16 miles in the wilderness would like this route. Just know you can drive up a nice road on the Mount Ord turn-off . This map will take you to an old jeep trail… suitable for people who feel the need to go hike 8 miles up the mountain that you can drive. Do you know when you hike the Grand Canyon and you want to flip it off after you are done… But then a couple of days later you think it wasn’t that bad? that’s probably how this hike will be.

Great hike! Dirt road all the way to the top. We encountered snow about halfway to the top and the entire way past the gate. It wasn't a ton so we went on. Made it all the way to the top, great views! Highly recommended. On the way back down, make sure to stay to your right as the left road is the newer road and will spit you out about 5 miles down from the TH. Enjoy!

A short hike up to the pines. Gate closed near the tower so you can't get to the top.

Great hike today- My Garmin GPS actually had us at 15 miles total up to the towers and back to the gate. Hiked up and jogged down. 4.5 hours. Warm on the way down so bring more water than you think you will need. Unfortunately it was a pretty hazy today due to the prescribed fires on the rim so the views weren’t ideal. Still gorgeous though. Views of Lake Pleasant and Roosevelt Lake!

Steady climb up and easy jog down. We saw three tarantulas.

I’d recommend this trail as a tester for older model 4x4s, something you wouldn’t mind getting pin stripes all over. A lot of over grown bushes and branches making it difficult to avoid. Trail was just over 2.5 hours difficult at times, narrow roads that are almost questionable at times. Good experience for a Sunday morning.

Wow, my first off-roading experience in AZ. this was a challenging trail, with some difficult/enjoyable terrain. A stock tacoma TRD can do this trail. Pick the right lines and go steady.

Took my Raptor up. 5 miles of rocky switch backing, some smooth. Start in deserty conditions and transitions to pines. After 5 miles meets up with well maintained FR to the antenna at the top. Final mile to the top you have to hike. Great ride, great views
