Great high desert loop route for SUVs and ATVs, that climbs to over 5,000 feet with panoramic desert and mountain views. Crosses many hiking trails into the bordering Superstition Wilderness. Popular area for ATVs and dirt bikes. Stay on existing roads at all times. Located in Tonto National Forest. For current conditions call Mesa Ranger District (480) 610-3300 Easy until F.S. 650 where it becomes narrow, steep and rutted. Stock vehicles with high ground clearance and good articulation can make it, although some 4x4 driving skill is necessary. Slippery at the top when wet.

Great day loop out of the city. Fairly easy terrain.

Awesome terrain changes. Overall neat experience. Took about 4 hours with about an hour of getting lost. Very narrow areas with pinstriping if you have a full size vehicle and do the full loop without detouring back to the 60. Definitely a fun one

Great trail, did it clock wise. I wouldn’t rate it moderate until the back half. This map is mis leading, when you come down the back side, switch backs, start paying close attention to your map or gps. Roads and trails are not marked, lots of random trails off into the desert, very easy to lose your way and end up in the middle of nowhere backtracking. Other than that, beautiful views, several stream crossing. We clocked 51 miles one way on a Raptor and Grizzly and enjoyed ourselves

One of my favorite trails. All day loop. Chilly at top. Bring layers of clothing. Rad trail!!! Pay attention to the map can get lost easily.

Did the loop, East to West. Going up the East side with the switchbacks was pretty narrow and not the place I’d want to meet another vehicle. Some of the hairpin corners were pretty tight and I’d not want to do that in a full sized truck... in a Wrangler or a side by side, you’d be fine. Most of the trail on this side was pretty washed out and you’ll want to choose your lines thru the bare rock. I didn’t encounter any sections where I needed 4L, but I also have 35’s and limited slip diff, which did kick in a couple times. Nothing major. The top had great views and was easy driving. Coming down on the West side wasn’t bad at all and the terrain eases up so line-finding isn’t as intense. Coming down thru the canyons was scenic and there were a couple of trickling streams to splash thru. More traffic on this side. Overall, great day drive. A couple areas where trees have fallen over into the road that could be trimmed back with a shorty chainsaw. There’s quite a bit of rock, so make sure your struts are services and sway bars disconnected to absorb some of the vibrations.

Not bad with a couple creek crossings. Water was very low. Good views from the highest point of the trail. Ran this west to east. The east side there were a few interesting looking FRs I’ll go back and see where they go. A lot of SxS.

Drove this loop in a stock 4x4 truck. Went in clockwise direction. The first half (west) had some beautiful wildflowers and desert scenery as you climb in elevation. This half of the road could be driven in any vehicle with half decent clearance. The northernmost point is where the turnoff for Rogers Canyon trailhead is located. This was a really nice hike with water running in a creek which is usually dry (I'm guessing). The second half (east) of the driving loop becomes a little more technical with some larger ruts and creek crossings where a little more clearance is useful. A little water in the creeks at this time, but nothing more than ankle deep. Great views on this half of the drive as well!

It's an ok trail in the right season. The flowers and waterfalls right now made it worth the trip. Only needed 4lo a couple times, mostly to go slow over the rocky parts. 3/15/19.

New drive. Great views. Recent snow in the area had water in the drainages. Some mud along the high part of the loop but nothing extreme. Allow several hours for the loop of traveling by non OHV vehicle.

This is a very easy trail we did in the JLRU. It is lengthy and it's good to say we did it but one time is enough.

Very good scenic trail. Goes up quite high so bring a jacket. Lower trails will soon be closed down so enjoy it while you can

Loved this off road drive! It was beautiful and there were lots of butterflies. It was a bit nerve-wracking to hear gun shots and not know where they were shooting since there were bushes in the way. Most people were shooting right off the road though where they can be seen.

Great trail! Any stock jeep can make it. We did about a 40 mile loop in about 3 hours. Definitely need your maps. Washes were damp and some puddles still around from Thursday night rain. Great views from Montana Mountain.

I drove the trail after a rain and it was challenging. The views were amazing and worth the effort. Make sure you are prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
