We keep saying we got messed up on Mescal after this hike. What appeared to be relatively easy / moderate out and back was increasingly more difficult by 11am with the sun heat beaming down. No shade at all. Thank god for the intermittent breeze and my hat or I might have passed out. Incredible views for sure -go early. 9am was too late a start. We also thought it was best to follow “difficult” path vs “extreme” in both directions when it splits. Some sandy parts & a few MTB but mostly just us out there. My mind kept playing tricks on me thinking I was seeing things i was not so we just blamed it on the Mescal. It does feel very spiritual with higher energy hiking the red rocks.

$5 for a day pass (don’t skip this, you will get a ticket lol) Trail is super easy to follow and going around the mountain is the best part! It took about 2 hours for the 5 miles.

beautiful trail. so many gorgeous views! trail is dog friendly but very clean. there is some elevation - enough to warm up on a cold morning but nothing crazy. seems pretty lightly trafficked as I left at 7:45 on a Saturday morning and only saw two other people on the trail. I might just go back and do the whole thing tomorrow! i only did a piece of it today.

Remarkable view that was absolutely stunning. Many bikes went through, so make way for them- but all in all, I would do this trail over again in a heartbeat. Do it!

Easy hike with great views, and it's easy to hit the devil's bridge too if you want to extend it a bit.

We used this parking lot and trail to get to the Devil's Bridge trail. Due to the recent rain, the first part of the trail required taking off our boots and walking through half-calf high water to cross a stream. The rest of the trail was fun, and a less trafficked, and somewhat less muddy, way to Devil's Bridge trail.

Trail is 6.4 mi, not 5.6 mi. Also very rocky at points and steep/slippery. But great view.

Did an out and back on this trail from Deadmans Pass Trail. Hiked out for an hour round the base of Mescal Mtn and took in some stunning views from the ledge at the base of the mountain.

Great hike! We did this last week. All the other reviews do a great job describing it so I can’t add too much. One person gave it a low score due to Mtn Bikes and lack of elevation gain. I could see that... we didn’t see any bikers but I think that could be due to the time of year. This is more like a long walk than than an elevation hike but it is visually stunning.

Started the hike where the trail crosses Long Canyon Road (no fee parking). Dry Creek was not dry, several days after a heavy rainfall. Mescal Trail west of Long Canyon Road offers amazing views of Sedona's famous red rocks as it snakes along the base of Mescal Mountain. We returned on Canyon Fools Trail and Yucca Trail, which meander through low growth forest, to make a loop out of it.

On this trail we saw thousand year old cave dwellings- the “amphitheater” was the most beautiful site I’ve seen in Sedona so far. I found really interesting rocks along the way, even tiny geodes inside the sandstone!

We hiked around this trail because we lost our drone. It was easy and fun. Felt like it was more popular with mountain bikers than hikers.

This was me and my girlfriends first hike in Sedona. We went during the middle of the day so it was about 100 deg. It took us 3 hours and it was a tad over 5 miles. We brought lots of water, sunscreen and hats to protect us from the sun so it wasn’t bad at all. This was an absolutely beautiful hike to introduce us to Sedona. A very nice mellow hike without a lot of elevation change at all. We went on a Monday and had the whole trail to ourselves.

The southwest point of Mescal Mountain is a fantastic place to watch a sunset over the valley.

Beautiful trail. Took this trail as a part of a loop including Long Canyon and Dead Man’s Pass. With this loop-expect along of mountain bikers and equestrian encounters.

From the long canyon road trail head we took the mescal mountain trail out to yucca trail down to canyon of fools trail back up to mescal and back. Neither yucca or the canyon trail show up on this app but canyon of fools does show up on google maps. This is a great loop just under 6 km long, which could be accomplished either from the other end of mescal or from the canyon of fools access. Great varied geography from valley creek beds to a ledge walk along mescal mountain. It seems popular especially with the bikes. Perfect morning hike with time enough to get to the Coffee pot restaurant for their lunch special.

Great hike! Not a whole lot of elevation gain, so the trail is quite manageable for all ability levels. Took this trail and met up with the Devil’s Bridge trail for an additional ~3.2 miles (round trip). Definitely worth doing to see the bridge. The scenery is incredible!
