Definitely not easy, but an absolutely wonderful hike. Highlight of our tour.

Enjoyable hike with really nice views. Good for someone who is starting to hike as long as they can handle the altitude.

Mountain biked this trail. Very enjoyable set of trails. Just be sure to not get lost when turning onto Mescal...

We liked this trail, awesome views throughout. Specially liked the Mescal trail. You feel like your inside a valley of canyon. A bikers haven (although we hiked it). Will definitely hike this trail again.

I absolutely loved that trail. It is amazing both because of its diversity, views, and availability both for hikers and bikers.

Husband and I did this in reverse order, I liked that, as it ended on an easy relatively flat walk vs the rockier Mescal trail. We ended up here on the weekend of a Mountain biking festival, so the trail was crowded with bikes as expected. Everyone was courteous, and it wasn’t too bad to just let the bikes by. Gave us moments to appreciate the stunning views.

Great trail with surprising views of canyons and Sedona.

great views with an abandoned trail off Mescal that could take you to top of Plateau. see pic with note on ruins on map.

after several days of moderate trails, we were looking for a picturesque easy trail. wasn't disappointed. easy walk, climbed up to a lookout cave.

This trail has a spectacular view of the valley. The path is shared with bikers so be aware. As you pass around the front of Mescal Mountain the monuments are so numerous. We hiked late in afternoon on a totally clear day in late January 2020. It took about two hours. Best time of day for pictures with the sun shining back.

Great vista views through different types of terrain. A little muddy in parts but the views are all worth it.

Beautiful hike! It takes you through different terrains through the different elevations. Lots of mountain bikers, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Second hike in Sedona. Perfect for us average hikers from Michigan. Loop was 4.75 on my Strava and we finished in just over 2 hours with plenty of photo ops. Views were fabulous. We started at 8:00 a.m. on trail at Mescal trailhead and hiked clockwise. Great choice for us as it was harder in beginning than at end. Did not see a single person until Deadman’s Pass trail. I would recommend this trail to anyone!

This was probably our favourite hike in Sedona. A fantastic loop with many different types of terrain and views. The first part is very easy and runs through the canyon, whereas the back half along deadman’s pass offers spectacular views of many of the rock faces. Finally the last third of the trail is a bit more of a climb (still easy) and runs along the edge of mescal mountain. This trail is definitely not moderate and more of an easy trail but offers a lot of great views and a nice loop. Took us just over 2 hours.

We completed this loop on a very hot day at the end of August but loved it. Loved walking along the mountain ridge. Beautiful views. Deadman’s Pass is nice and can lead you to Boynton Pass if you want to do that trek as well. We completed the loop but the backside of Mescal on Deadman’s Pass was very hot with little shade. Go early if you’re doing this hike. It also ends about a quarter mile from the parking area on Long Canyon Rd. We didn’t hear any construction noise.

Great trail, only a few areas I would consider moderate. Lots of construction noise along the north side from Seven Canyons.

This was a very easy trail. Not deserving of the moderate rating. I still loved it though. The views were incredible! Would totally do it again.

We loved this trail. The colours of the rock rim are fabulous. There were lots of cyclists, but they were very considerate and thanked us for moving off of the trail when they came by

A good “active recovery” hike, more like a rambling walk around Mescal Mountain. Took us 2 hrs.

Great views and much easier than the moderate rating. More bikers than hikers but all were polite and even stopped for us at times. Scenery was awesome

I’m not sure why this is rated as “moderate” as it was very much easier than either “Soldier’s Pass” and the loop “Hog Wash/ High on the Hog”. We appreciated the obvious efforts to make this hike less muddy than many other trails we completed in Sedona and it’s great to have a bigger trailhead and a good road to travel to the trailhead. We extended the loop by going up the Long Canyon trail.

Great hike with gorgeous views and not a ton of foot traffic, thankfully. At times, we felt like the only people around.

Would do this many times over. Relaxing and a mild workout all at the same time with amazing views and not too crowded.

Completed this trail toward the end of the day. We didn’t see any mountain bikers and only ran into a couple of people throughout the loop. Very cool and easy walk.

Great view throughout the hike. We like it!
