Great workout! I hiked an easier loop with friends then hopped over to this for a good burn. Don't do Marcos de Niza too late because it's exposed and high and HOT. I finished at about 8 am and it was almost too warm.

An oldie but goodie. Great for children of all ages. May also be able to teach them a history lesson.

Great trail with a lot of trails coming off of it that you can take. Nice place to park. Just remember you cannot take your dog if temps are over 100 degrees. Saw coyotes at dusk.

Nice loop. We went counter clockwise. Not marked well. Thank goodness for this app. Saw a coyote walking back to the car and almost got hit with a flying golf ball. All in All, a great short hike.

This is becoming one of my favorites! It’s challenging up and back. Can’t remember what the trail is called after Marcos but it leads to corona de loma. Didn’t go that far today. Just over 4 miles in about 2 1/2 hrs.

This is always a great trail for quick elevation - I went past the power lines, up the next hill, then down National for a good little loop. Lot of coyote chatter this morning!

Awesome trail with a great workout! A bit of a climb depending on which way you go. I went counter clockwise so the hardest part was towards the end of the hike.

Classic South Mountain trail it is one of the most popular one. It has a big parking lot but it gets filled up by 6:00 so come early

Enjoyed this quick, yet relatively aggressive ascent. Plenty to keep you engaged, as there are a lot of loose gravel and various splits. The second half is fairly mundane, walking back down the old dirt road.

Was a fun hike with great views. 1/2 way through as we were climbing rocks there was a big diamondback rattle snake. Didn’t rattle at us but could have easily tried to bite. Really freaked us out because it blended into the rocks and we didn’t notice it until we were less than a foot away. Then we saw another smaller white and green snake that was pretty upset and rattling. So keep I close eye out for snakes and be safe!

About 1/3 of the hike there is a difficult and scary to climb up. Not suitable for senior or family with kids.

Marcos de Niza out & then the road back. Moderately busy on weekdays but still pleasant to take the dogs. This is one of my favorite work out hikes. You follow the ridgeline for most of the trail; just when you are out of breath from an incline, there is a downhill recovery stretch. The Marcos de Niza part is short but moderate difficulty. The road back is definitely easy.
