The Lower Cliff Dwelling an uphill walk on a paved path. Arrive, check in at the visitor center, and start hiking before 4 pm. Hiking to the Lower takes about an hour round trip. Visit Salado ruins

Amazing hike! We were guided by Will Moore to the Upper Cliff Dwellings. He was very knowledgeable about the ruins and provided an excellent account of the history regarding the cliff dwellings. Highly recommend this guided tour to anyone interested in local history.

Last weekend my wife and I did this hike, the weather was great and the views incredible, the hike itself was easy and the trail to the top was very well maintained, the ranger and staff were very friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have, after the hike headed back into Global to have some Mexican Food.

Short but steep walk up. Path is paved and well maintained. Well worth it for the views at the top.

Nice paved trail. A little steep, so flip flops not recommended going back down. Benches all along the way to rest of enjoy the view.

Very nice trail. Paved all the way, great views, and amazing to see how they lived in 1400 AD.

Could only get to the lower cliff dwellings but it was still pretty amazing. The hike up can be strenuous depending on what you are used to. Just be aware in case there are kids or older adults in the group! There will be a fee at the entrance since it's a national monument. If you want to see wildflowers, go in late March/early April.

Wow, incredible to be on this scared land. Interesting part of Indian Culture.

Lower dwelling are good 3 stars but the upper is much better hence the 4 star rating. Biggest issue is getting a spot on the weekend for the hike it is ranger guided only access. Not a difficult hike and a slow pace with the ranger talks which are very informative. Our 4 year old did it without issue so don't let the ranger description scare you off.

Fun walk! It's a paved walk, not really a hike, and super quick. The dwellings are great and the view is beautiful! This would be great for families and child-outings. Fun to see as a visitor to AZ

This was a really cool experience. It cost $5 to get in per person. There is a little museum that is interesting. The trail to the cliffs is easy but so beautiful. Amazing views. Loved seeing the ruins and reading the signs along the trail. The drive was also really beautiful, especially going back to Mesa on highways 188 and 87. I got there going on the 60 east from Gilbert. Make sure the canyon isn't getting dynamited before you go. We got stopped along the way. Luckily there was only an hour left in their schedule. We stopped at a cool park in a little town called Superior that had old mining equipment out and a red caboose with tourist info inside while we waited.

Right. "Hike" is kind of a secondary aspect of a visit here. There is a hike, either to the lower or upper dwellings. And the lower dwellings are open much more than the upper. But not much of one. However, I recommend it if you are in the area just the same.

This is not so much a trail as it is a learning experience. Hiking this trail is only permitted in the presence of a ranger and by appointment. The lower dwelling trail is paved, but this one is highly maintained. The flora and fauna are expertly discussed by the ranger during the walk up to the cliff dwelling, which itself is an interesting piece of history from a culture long since departed. If you are looking for an outdoor hiking experience into the wilderness this is not for you. Be prepared for tourists and lots of chatter. A more exclusive type of experience involves early sign up and taking one of the rarely presented moonlight hikes to the Upper Cliff Dwellings.
