Getting There

The Little Horse Trail begins as part of the Bell Rock Pathway. Follow this wide trail southward for 0.25 mile. Here, at a signed fork, take the old jeep road branching to the left and marked with basket cairns. The road drops to cross a dry streambed, climbs a bit and ends at the 0.75 mile point. The trail continues to the left and climbs moderately, topping out on a large, flat expanse. Turn to the right here. The level trail leads into a stand of Arizona cypress and intersects Chapel Trail about 1.4 miles from the Chapel of the Holy Cross as it nears the "Madonna and the Nuns" spire rock formation. Continue for 150 yards passing the base of the knobs of Chicken Point on the left. Take the path left for a short climb onto the bare rock for wonderful views. This point is used by jeep tours via Broken Arrow Road.

Fantastic lower trail with nice rocky incline. At the base of the mtn, you can loop onto Chapel trail for .7m further to get to the vortex. (Phone died so I didn’t get to record entirely).

HikingGreat!

Best hike hands down of our Sedona Adventure. Arrived at trailhead at 7:00 a.m. and were rewarded with a near empty parking lot and the trail to ourselves. Chicken Point was stunning and well worth the effort. There are many off shoot trails that can be added to the hike so its good to be familiar with maps and choices prior to starting the day. Trail intersections are well marked, but the abundance of trails, routes and choices can be a bit confusing. Do your homework and have at least a working understanding of trails & distances is my advise.

HikingFeeGreat!

Beautiful views the entire hike. Not too busy since the trailhead parking isn't very big. perfect conditions out there yesterday. Added a little of broken arrow trail after little horse ended.

Trail ends at chicken point, which is an epic overlook. Only downside is pink Jeep’s at the top means some noise and a decidedly non-hikey vibe. But very nice otherwise. See photos and videos is story highlights @mirelaofearth

One on my favorite hikes, got here at sunrise, had the trail going out and Chicken Point to ourselves. Hiked a bit of Broken Arrow as well. Amazing views, great trail.

Loved this trail. I was looking for an easy trail as I am 4+ months off a total knee replacement and unsure about my abilities just yet. It's listed as moderate, and I suppose in some ways it is, but it was fairly easy with only a couple of places that I would call moderate. The scenery is great and the climb is gradual so as not to be very difficult. Great views of the nuns (I think that's correct) as you basically hike around to the back side of them, some nice views of the Chapel of the Holy Cross just a few steps off the trail, and some very nice views of Bell rock and Chapel Rock, depending on the position of the sun. Passed several others hiking and bikers as well, but I would have called it crowded, just busy. This is my first hike in the Sedona area and I'm sure there are many similar, but I would do this again with friends and I think it's a great hike for all types. It took me 2.5 hours because I stopped several times to take photos and also have the knee thing, but it could have easily been 1.5 hours (but why?). I encourage everyone to try it, IF you can get a parking spot. Oh yea, I paid the $5 for the Red Rock permit at the machine in the lot, but them figured out I could have simply placed my Lifetime National Parks Pass on the dash as it is accepted at all the Red Rocks areas. Finding parking is definitely the biggest challenge to these trails, but if you're patient, you will find one.

Fun hike not too challenging and quite a few bikers but they were all very courteous. We’ve done this one before but going the opposite way around the mountain on broken arrow. This one’s a little longer but I think you get to see a little more.

Trail was easy to moderate. They have a lot of signs and maps to keep you on track. Very rocky but lots of beautiful views.

Great little hike. I’d say it’s on the easier side. Going out only passed 2 people. Going back to the parking lot there was many hikers and mountain bikers.

Beautiful day for a hike. The views at Chicken Point of Sedona were stunning. Trail was relatively easy with a bit of boulder scrambling to reach Chicken Point. We got out early but saw several mountain bikers on the way back
