HikingGreat!

We hiked this trail clockwise on a Friday in mid-April, starting at 10 AM from the Chapel Road trailhead. (Note that using Apple Maps to navigate to the starting point shown on the AllTrails app takes you to a nondescript spot in a residential neighborhood about 1/4 mile from the actual Chapel Road trailhead.) Our choice of this hike was based in large part on the reviews on the AllTrails app, and they were spot-on! Particularly appealing to us were mentions of the views, low usage compared to other trails in the area, and the fact that it was a loop trail. The trail starts by meandering with moderate elevation change around the west side of Elephant Rock with views to the west and north toward Sedona and surrounding neighborhoods. However, once you turn up Pig Tail toward Hog Wash, the trail makes a steep scramble up a rock face before leveling out and traversing the north side of the Twin Buttes. Here the views open to the north and east in spectacular fashion along Hog Heaven. Continuing along High on the Hog and Broken Arrow, the views become even nicer as Two Nuns come into view and you approach Chicken Point. As noted by other reviewers, Chicken Point is popular with off-roaders, particularly the ubiquitous Pink Jeep rentals out of Sedona. But the area is big enough to accommodate all users, and the drivers were courteous and friendly. Descending from Chicken Point along Little Horse, we lost the cooling breezes felt at the viewpoint as the afternoon warmed. The trail meanders to the south with nice views of Bell Rock and The Courthouse before turning toward Highway 179. Here we picked up the Mystic Trail again through a residential neighborhood before reaching the Chapel Road trailhead. Lack of parking is apparently an issue, as many residences had posted signs and barricades in their driveways admonishing hikers not to park. On this day we encountered fewer than 50 other hikers and perhaps two dozen mountain bikers along the way. Everyone along the way was friendly and exhibited great trail courtesy, although it should be noted that virtually no one wore masks. Overall, a spectacular trail that captures great views of the beauty surrounding Sedona. This one should not be missed!

We started this hike on 4/9/21 at 9am from Mystic Trailhead on Chapel Rd. Parking was still available. This hike was amazing and definitely was exactly what we were looking for with our first trip to Sedona. Beautiful nonstop views the entire hike. The app was a great help because there were several times we went off track...it does get confusing in some areas and you do need to pay attention. We crossed other hikers, especially at and around Chicken Point, and several mountain bikers. We went clockwise on the trail, most others were going the opposite direction, so it was easy to see them. We felt like we had the place to ourselves most of the time, though! We did Cathedral Rock earlier in the day and this was a stark contrast in terms of people. The trail is mostly open but there was plenty of shade to be found when we wanted to take a break. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the other reviewers...you're the ones that convinced us to take this trail. We are so happy we did!

We had a great time on the trail today, might be our favorite hike that we’ve done in Sedona. We started from Chapel Rd and went clockwise. The app was very helpful for a few spots where we weren’t as sure about where to go. We timed it to stop for lunch at Chicken Point. It was fun to watch the Jeeps and mountain bikers down below. We scrambled up the rock face above the Point a little, which was a fun diversion for the kids. We did miss the initial part of the trail and were on the 4x4 road for a little bit before linking up. The second half was a little trickier with some steeper parts, but very manageable. Would gladly do again, maybe the other way so we could see it from the other angle.

Arrived by 0830 the lot wasn’t even half full. Beautiful scenic views. Parts of the trail were a little precarious, but doable. We appreciated the intermittent shade. One of our favorite loops in Sedona.

I’ve lived in Arizona for four years now and this is hands down the best hike I’ve ever done here. My dog and I started around 7:15am. DO NOT go to where the directions take you. It’ll take you to a home. Start where the loop meets Church Rd and then begin walking through the residential area. I am in awe that this trail isn’t more popular because it is INCREDIBLE. But I am so thankful it’s a hidden secret. I only ran into two other people and a couple of jeep tours near Chicken Point. If you bring your dog, you will have to let them off-leash in a few spots to safely navigate the rocks and cliffs you will be climbing down the last 2 miles. My dog had an absolute BLAST on this trail and I can’t recommend it enough! I found myself having to use the map on here a lot. There are a lot of false-trails and it’s easy to get off the loop.

The signs say that this trail is super difficult, we found that the trail was OK, a little steep in some places, but during the summer you need to be careful that you have enough water there is no exit once you get up on the mountain but it is absolutely gorgeous make this hike if you can

Overall this was a nice, easy trail with lots of beautiful scenery. You’ll encounter Jeep tours when you are on the Broken Arrow portion. I would have given it 5 stars, but took off 1 because you have to walk the road part of the way. There is a sign that indicates this trail was advanced/ technical. I think that applies to bikers because overall I thought the hike was easy and I am not an avid, experienced hiker.

It was great until we got to the point where Broken Arrow meets Hog Heaven, Hog heaven was marked double black diamond with cliffs, and after trying it for a bit we were forced to turn back as we did not want to risk it with a toddler in the backpack. Disappointed that we couldn’t complete the loop and had to turn back 2.7 miles in, especially since AllTrails called this a “Moderate” loop...

We love this loop! It’s our top 5 in Sedona. It’s rocky in some parts but not that difficult. The view all around was amazing. We took a side trip to Submarine rock and went up on the north end. I do recommend good hiking boots and poles for who needs support. Come early for limited parking spaces or around 11:30 am when most folks come back from the Chicken point. You can also find parking on the Chapel road and go counter clockwise.

If you follow the Directions to the TH, you will arrive @ a private residence with no TR access...216 Meadowlark Drive! We decided to drive over to Chapel Road & start our hike @ the Mystic TH. We completed a loop by hiking Mystic to Hog Wash to Peccary. Nice hike!

This loop was so fun. Little horse via bell park path is pretty difficult at times going up, but coming down is insanely fun. When I got back to bell rock path to head back to the parking area, that part of the trail is also insanely fun. You can get going pretty fast and there are little mounds of dirt making it a pretty fun trail to go as fast as you can down. Just keep your eyes forward and watch for hikers and other bikers.
