This is a beautiful trail. However, for me and my barefoot gaited horses, I can't go fast enough and this makes my older bones ache.

To be honest, it's a little boring. the scenery doesn't change that much in 9 miles and the few homestead foundations can be found the first two miles in going counterclockwise. There is the occasional Vista, but it's mostly just a stroll through the forest. Probably ideal if you are on horseback.

The road in to the trail head was slick due to recent rains. We came on a cloudy day. Nice, well maintained trail. We started with marker 1, went in about a mile, but turned back due to rain. Once we got to the trail head, the sun came out, so we started at marker L34 and went the opposite way. This side of the trail is more open with meadows and lots of sun exposure. The trail is clearly marked. Once we found the first pioneer house foundation, the rain returned, so we once again turned back. Looking forward to doing this again someday. Definitely recommend could days.

Easy hike, with some old foundations from the "pioneers". There is a view at the NW side of the loop on the top of the hill, otherwise not so much. We would have preferred more tree cover, the areas through the junipers was exposed and hot. A section was also on a dirt road, which was more exposed as well. Overall a good trail, better taken in cooler weather or with cloud cover.

It took us a few minutes to find the trail at first, the trail is labeled as a trail number (which I forgot). It’s not listed anywhere that the pioneer trail is trail ### but that was it. Wasn’t able to make the full loop because we got accidentally got off trail. We ended up having to back after 4 miles in and ended up going out the way we came in. I uploaded 3 pictures were this happened. When you come to a gate it looks like the trail continues straight, you have to make a hard left turn and you will see a small white arrow on a tree in the distance. It’s a flat easy trail and enjoyed it a lot! If My husband and I didn’t live so far away we would definitely try to make the loop again! There were a few spots we could stop and rest in the shade with our dog.
