The Jug is nature's waterpark in a slot canyon. It is equipped with rock waterslides and a 25-30 feet jump from a waterfall at the end. Once you get near the canyon, the entrance is not well marked and there is a cattle fence blocking the trail that you need to open and let yourself through. Once the trail turns from red dirt to grey silt, stay to the left. this is the entrance. If you go right it takes you to the exit of the canyon. Note: You will need rappel gear: 150' rope, rappel device, and harness. Potentially a wetsuit and water shoes depending on the time of year.

This is more of a questions for those who have done it but the dirt road from the freeway to the trail parking, can a sedan drive on that road ? or would we need a off-road vehicle (SUV) to drive in ? Thank you for any information

The trail is super easy until you get to the fork and then it’s unclear which way to go. We ended up going wag farther than needed and having to back track. If your up for adventure the hike through the canyon is super fun and the view are gorgeous. There were a ton of yellow jackets everywhere. When you get to end the jump is super sketchy and the water actually wasn’t even deep enough to jump. Overall it was ok hike nothing special. I’ve done some amazing and difficult hikes and there are much better out there in opinion. PS. Beware of rattle snakes. There was one just sitting on the trail on the way out and someone almost got bit.

This has to be my favorite hike in the valley hand down. However, Do not attempt this hike if you can’t do the jump at the end and don’t have rappel gear.

This is not a review but a question. What is the water level at this time of year? Can you still jump the cliff? or is the water to shallow?

Great trail but please make sure you are ready to jump or have a repelling harness. Turning back is pretty much impossible unless you want to scramble back up against the water stream.

Amazing hike! It’s not for the weak hearted. Also not suitable for kids. Definitely worth the drive!

One of the most exciting, fun and nerve racking hikes I’ve done. The drive up was long, but ended up being worth it. It’s hot, but the water make it tolerable. There is a jump that is somewhat scary if you’ve never been here and turning around isn’t really possible. This jump took me a bit to warm up to, but I was lucky enough to be with someone who’s done it before. With out them, I wouldn’t trust the jump. Other than that, 10/10, would recommend!

Beautiful trail, but do recommend that you are pretty in shape for this hike and prepared for it and bring plenty of water! Was very difficult for me going to the canyon and back out up the mountain. The water portion is fairly easy.

This is not for beginners. I would say don’t come unless you have rope and a harness.

Great Hike and fun slides down rocks throughout just need to splash water from side pools to make them wet. Cliff jump at the end can be a little sketchy. Seems to be easier without shoes to get better grip. Super fun but probably not for beginners.

Awesome Trail if you’re ready to get wet and test your nerves. Trail starts with a very easy relatively flat trail to get to the slot canyon. Once at the water you’re eased in to the fun stuff by bouldering across the water as the canyon gets deeper. You’re met with an awesome beach area good for a morning snack. Following the beach area the canyon gets deeper with deeper pools of clear water. A few jumping off points and sliders offer a ton of fun as you make it to the cliff jump. Wear grippy shoes here as the angle of the rocks make grip difficult. Transverse rope and a vertical rope help to get you to the edge of the jumping off point. Then it’s 1...2...3...jump and 20 feet later you’re hitting the water wanting to do it again. Awesome trail. Will do again soon.

Wondering if a harness and all of that is needed for the trail or if you can just use the rope to get up and down? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Loved this hike! The cliff jumping spot at the end can be a little scary for your first time because the roped path can be very slippery. It is a ton of fun though! This may be a long shot, but my friend lost his Apple Watch at the cliff jumping spot on May 31st. If anyone finds it please let me know!

Very fun but somewhat challenging hike for experienced hikers. Make sure that you are prepared to swim and jump off of a 30 foot-ish cliff towards the end. The road that leads up to the hike is bearable but use caution when driving of course. The worst part of the hike is the end because of the uphill climb. Well worth the struggle though.

Awesome hike! It's a little bit challenging for inexperienced hikers. The jump at the end is not too bad but I have witnessed two people back flop because they slipped when jumping. Nothing bad happened to them so those too scared to jump just know that you can layout completely when hitting the water and be completely fine. Don't bring dogs or children for the sake of other hikers unless you know how to repel quickly. Lost an Iphone 6 in a plastic bag after the waterfall near the second optional cliff jump.

This is the second time I did this trail. It was a till just as amazing as the first time. The water is perfect and it’s it’s getting hot here in AZ. The way down and back up is just over 2 miles. Remember to bring water for the hike. Getting out is all up hill and it is hot!! If you don’t know how to swim or if you are afraid of heights, pass this hike up. There was a group that had two people that didn’t know how swim and others that didn’t want to jump at the end. They ended up having to turn around and do nearly the entire hike again up stream.

Found a last GoPro attached to a floating handle. Dates from about a month ago. I found it well before the waterfall though. Let me know if it’s yours. I don’t thinking all trails has a messaging feature so maybe just leave another comment.
