Beautiful views but the whole hike is in a wash. There is no trail.

Pretty easy trail with some amazing desert views! Overall pretty empty so nice to get away from the crowds!

Walking

This is a beautiful hike or walk. If you're lucky enough to be coming off the Picture Rocks Wash trail and heading north on the Ironwood Trail about sunset, you will get to see some some of the most beautiful sunset views round each corner.

I’m glad it rained for 4 days prior to this hike to firm up the ground a bit because I wouldn’t have happily tolerated walking through really loose washes for that long. Pretty solid hike, though. Good views. Decent variety. Just more wash than I typically like.

Way too much of the trail is in a sandy wash. If that’s ok for you the trail is great!

Easy and beautiful hike. Lots of sand is the only downside. There are Petroglyph at Picture Rocks and in a couple places on the left on the way there. Picture Rocks is on private land outside the National Park and there are signs warning to not desecrate the site for fear of prosecution and to not climb on the rocks. Glad these signs are there because there are a couple signs of vandalism such as "I + M" carved into one of the rocks on the left side. Despite the small signs of disturbances, it is a beautiful example of Petroglyphs dating from approximately 900 A.D. Some are estimated to be newer (1340 roughly) and some as old as 340 A.D. We saw lots of wildlife and signs of more on this trail as well. The wildflowers were abundant (late March), as were the butterflies. Lovely views at the high point of Ironwood trail. Saguaro and Ironwood trees were everywhere!
