Since the Icehouse Canyon Trail is a point to point trail you can access it from both sides. There is a great elevation gain (or loss) so you may choose either to start from the bottom or top depending on whether you like ascending or descending. The trail starts off and continues with many switchbacks. You change elevation rapidly. In a few spots the trail gets sketchy to see but there are cairns placed in sight to guide you through the rough spots. At different times a long the trail you'll get a great view of Globe / Miami and the mountains around them. The first part of the trail is heavily forested but gets less dense the farther down you travel. Be careful of the many loose rocks on the trail as footing can be tricky.

That hike was unreal. You get to start in the desert chaparral and then move into an old growth forest with deciduous and pine trees with a creek running through. Probably one of my favorite hikes of all time.

Most of the trail is on an old road. Let yourself through a barbed wire removable fence. The view and vegetation changes little while on the road.

Hike quickly gained elevation once off the dirt road to trail. Landscape was interesting with hills, lots of greenery/berry bushes, lots of burned trees from a fire awhile back. Trail was easy to follow as for the most part a rocky road...got more interesting as the hike went on, especially with the Bear Scat...squirrels, lizards, hawks flying above...views of Globe were amazing. Hiked another half mile from end of trail then back. Fun Hike but the elevation gets intense...Great Incline Workout! No washrooms, No Fees 5-17-19

Park before the icehouse CCC camp at a small pull off to the right. If you park at the icehouse CCC camp you can still find the trail by taking trail 192. There was a fire recently that burned a lot of brush. You walk on an old road, still used by ranchers from the looks of it, for a while. When you come to a yellow and green tank, the trail goes to the right. The trail doesn’t end where AllTrails says it does, but I didn’t explore further. Steep, decent workout. Gorgeous views of the Globe area and Miami mine
