There are many trails in this area that are worthy of more hiking. The Hidden Valley loop offers interesting tunnels, dry waterfalls, and a squeeze through Fat Man's pass. While it might be tempting, it is not recommended to hike off trail in this area as it is very difficult to make any progress and easy to lose sight of the trail. Given the close proximity with Phoenix, you should be ready to share this trail with many others, especially on nice winter weekends. Bring your camera as there are many opportunities for great photos.

This is one of my favorite trails in the area! You definitely feel the incline that kicks your booty but then after you get past that it’s much easier. You go through a cave (shade!!! Ahhhh....) and squeeze through Fat Man’s Pass. You climb up a couple of boulders, too! This trail has it all! The only issue is the trail stops being marked for a little bit, but we never really got lost.

The first part of the trail is all upward hiking. Some people may find it steep. Once you get up the trail, there is a sign pointing one way for the tunnel and another for Fat Man’s Pass. Either way you go it will loop around to the other but if you go the Fat Man’s Pass way you will be climbing down most of the rocks instead of climbing up. Admittedly the trail is a little harder to find and follow on the loop but not bad. During the hotter months, bring plenty of water! Actually bring plenty of water anytime.

Great trail I think we totally passed the Fat Man’s cave referred to the ascension was greater than 3 miles descended down another steep trail ~ 2.5 miles ended up on 19th street by BSA Heard Scout Pueblo campgrounds. Had to walk back to 24th street to parking lot where we started. Total hike 6.2 miles. Unless hikers turn around at the rocks in which I think is the cave this was 3 hour plus hike and wouldn’t classify it as moderate IMO.

This is one of the coolest hikes to do in Phoenix! Once you get to the top and enter hidden valley you'll go through a natural tunnel formed by rock slabs then do some climbing over more rock slabs then enter fat man's pass. Fun to do for kids and teens.

Great hike and a real workout! Switchbacks all the way up! At the top stay to your right to take Valley Loop to Fat Man’s Pass and the tunnel! Fun hike! Wish the grandkids had been with us! This trail is one of our top favorites now! I recommend starting early and taking plenty of water. It’s a short trail but a strenuous one and you will easily drink more than you think! Will do this one again, for sure!

If you go left around the loop you’ll be doing a lot of climbing up. If you go right you’ll be going down. I recommend going right

This trail has it all. I love how you don’t see the city once you are in hidden valley. It’s so peaceful. Fat mans pass and the tunnel is fun to do. Many cool boulder formations to look at. Perfect distance for me after an initial climb of 500 ft. A definite jewel in the city. Great city views as well. Go early as the parking lot is small.

Nice trail - busy with other hikers and mountain bikers due to it being a Saturday afternoon. Remember who has right of way. Loved the hidden valley loop and squeezing through fatman’s pass. Unfortunately trash was very visible on Mormon trail including multiple bags of dog waste. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave the outdoors clean for everyone to enjoy and remember to pack it in and pack out.

Cool hike! Lots of people out and about for some quarantine exercise.

Awesome trails to explore! On the way back down unfortunately I pooped myself. That wasn’t too fun. I’ll be back for some more hiking and explore every trail they have to offer. Hopefully next time no emergencies.

Limited to no shade. Offers a breathtaking view of the Ahwatukee foothills and Camelback Mtn. Cool spots to stop and take pictures. Large flatrock, some areas of just dirt and scramble. Nice trail for dogs. Was pretty busy but easy navigation overall. Want to go back and continue on Mormon loop farther.

This is a great hike, but it is harder than I was led to believe. The first mile was all rocky uphill. It is beautiful, but again, harder than other people have said. Will hike again and steomgly recommend to others! I did it to help myself get in shape and lose weight, and it is great for that!

I liked it, but it was definitely busy for the first half. Once you get up to the loop it’s nicer and less crowded. Love Fat Man’s Pass!
