Great trail. Moderate to difficult in some parts. Worth doing it! Great views! Nice work out. Not a lot of parking, get there early.

Beautiful trail, but lots of mountain bikers. Park past the trail at granite reef rd.

It’s a bit rocky and with all the rainfall some of the vegetation is overgrown. It’s a really versatile trail that ended up being 10.1 miles not 6.0 miles.

Nice easy hike for novice hiker. From the trail head heading out to the left you will have a bit of a challenge to find the trail as part of it is washed out but you can take the path to the left and it will join up to the trail with very little trouble. The challenge comes when you make it to the to of the mountain and and go around to the back, there are several trails that can take you in the wrong direction. Take your time to look for the turn off and pay close attention the all trails app and you will get there. A little rocky on the back side but worth the effort. Done it once and one is enough as the views were not that great.

The landscape on this hike is great! I would suggest using the map to guide you because it’s easy to get lost on some parts. I think when this trail was built they had bikers in mind, it’s very hilly with lots of sharp turns. The trailhead is hidden but you can find it using google maps. There’s no parking on the road so you’ll have to park at granite reef and walk up, 0.6 miles. A Tonto pass is required to park there.

Beautiful views on this hike. Just breathtaking and beautiful wild flowers. Hiking entrances not clearly marked. Many trails connect to each other, so it’s easy to accidentally go a longer way than intended.

Did this hike mid-November and it was amazing! took us about 3.5 hours, but we accidentally went off-trail for about 0.5 miles at one point. The junctions themselves are well marked though. Definitely think its better to start with Granite Trail and then finish the loop on Hawes Trail. We also saw a small herd of the wild Salt River horses. The scenery is beautiful. Would definitely say this trail is moderate - the elevation is a lot of up and downs but pretty easy. Most of the trail is in the sun. Would say it's lightly trafficked. Only complaint is that the trailhead is just on the side of the road, and terribly marked (just keep driving down another few miles and eventually you get there). There's also an option to buy the parking passes at the nearest drug stores or gas stations.

I have done several hikes in the Hawes area, but I think that this was my favorite route so far. Decent workout and the weather was perfect!
