Went out this morning, arrived at 630 and was the only car there. It was amazing and beautiful! Plenty of shade in lots of areas this early. Tons of bees! And spider webs everywhere. Still a little water but mostly small puddles... THANK YOU to the person who left white ribbons to help mark the trails crossing through the ravine! About the 2.5 mile mark when the sign says go left .. only go left if you want the 9mile loop! Head back towards the parking lot area if you want to keep it under 4 miles. This trail was beautiful, can’t wait to go back after the rainy season

Beautiful trail!!! However definitely difficult to follow without an offline map!! Several loose rock areas. Only saw frogs and a baby dove no snakes. Several places with water still.

Beautiful hike! The controversial sign is at mile 2.4. Someone wrote "Wrong way" on it and the Forest Service scratched it out....if you go Right, you complete the ALL TRAILS 3.8 mile loop. if you go Left and follow the signs, you complete the official Hackberry Spring Loop designated by the Forest Service. Both routes are scenic and have a lot of bees and black gnats this time of year.

There is a mountain lion carcass in the Hackberry area. Very cool. Dogs off leash could be a tasty treat for a mountain lion. Kids and solo hikers beware. Have now done about 15 hikes in the Hackberry Springs area. The numerous dry washes provide an abundance of alternate paths. The Hackberry Trail sign mentioned, at the top of the loop, is for the "official" Hackberry Trail, not for the "loop" variation described here. If you go about 70 yards east of that sign, along the Hackberry Trail, there is a nice viewpoint south across the valley toward the old windmill, corral, and water tank; and the rock path up the hill, which goes to the dirt road.

trail is not closed, I started at 7am on 5/04/2020. First Water Road is also open going past the horse trailer lot, the covid barrier is no longer there. there were a lot of bees in a few different spots, but must be pacifist bees - I asked them kindly not to sting me and they obliged. Be very careful around the water and rocks, spotted a very large rattlesnake curled up in the rocks at First Water Creek, right before getting to the cattle ranch. I do this loop clockwise and it's not too strenuous, and very easy to follow. Like others say, pay attention around the halfway mark as you can continue on Hackberry Springs trail going towards the Second Water trailhead which is going to add some distance to your hike. When you get to the sign, go off/up to the right to get back to the horse trailer lot and complete the loop.

I really enjoy this hike in the Spring. It's a beautiful hike with great views & creek crossings. Not well marked in some areas, AllTrails map is super helpful.

BEWARE! sign posted on hike path is wrong!!! About half way through, this nice quality wooden sign points you in the opposite direction and we went 1 mile out of the way before realizing and turning back. Someone has written on the sign in sharpie: wrong way, seriously go right to get to parking lot. Wish we’d have noticed this little writing when we walked by. Park services should really fix that!!! Lovely hike otherwise. I would have given 5 stars if we would’ve not been directed the wrong way for an extra 2 miles.

Great trail. Road is open. Very well labeled and marked. I can see how when the water is higher the trail might be harder to find along the water. There was a rattlesnake sighted on side of trail. We have Verizon and had no service on trail. If you don’t have the pro portion of the app, record your hike and you will be able to track yourself on the trails.

Easy to moderate trail, was the only person on it on a weekend morning. Loved it, so much to see. Make sure to follow the creek to the left to continue on trail, look for cairns. Underrated trail, but let’s keep it that way. :)

Relatively easy hike. Horses use this a lot so you need to avoid the piles of poop on the trail. Very rocky, not much of a challenge or incline. We didn't do the the loop kinda out and back. Gorgeous views though and had to cross the water in several areas. Nice overcast day. We did see a king snake and a Gila monster.

Nice hike made a wrong turn at river should have gone left but we followed river to the right.Found trail at the cattle corral. Seen a rattlesnake along river. We didn’t hear the rattle because of the water.

Love love love this trail! If you’re looking for a quick hike, with amazing creek to just post up and chill at! Underrated for sure. I have Verizon and don’t have service so make sure to download the map if you need too..

Did this hike CW two weeks ago. This was a super fun and beautiful trail with a variety of features: rolling desert hills, impressive rock faces, creek crossings, wildflowers, old ranching pens, large rock slabs, and of course a nice variety of climbs and descents! We started at 8, but the parking lot was packed by the time we got back with large group outings. We almost added on a couple more miles to our hike due to the sign at the top of the last saddle- beware!

Hiked this from Massacre trail parking due to road closure adding 3 miles. This is a scenic desert trail with everything you could want in a spring hike including scenic views, water crossings, wildflowers and up and down elevations. We hiked CW and as mentioned in other posts, sign on final saddle is misleading pointing you left instead of right. Small Sharpe pen on the sign and the AllTrails app kept us in the right direction. The final climb from the old ranch will get the heart pumping before hitting the road down to the Horse trailer lot where you will want to park on a normal day. Great trail for running as well and of course is popular on horseback.

Hike was amazing a lot of up down. However once you get back to the spring you kind of loose the trail. It’s not marked we ended up a quarter mile off of the trail along with many other hikers. Thanks to this app though we were able to make our way back to the trail and continue on.

Easy, relaxing hike with little elevation. The spring was nice and is a great trail for dogs! Definitely will come back.

This hike was beautiful! We wet traveled clockwise as suggested and then went to the springs. The water was flowing heavily and it was so peaceful! We weren’t sure where to catch the trail back so we wandered a bit in the creek area. We finally headed back to the sign post and went left, continuing clockwise. It was a lovely hike back between hills along a stream (we had a lot of rain earlier this week) and was pretty level ground. The hike back to the parking lot was super simple. It was lovely loop!!! If you plan to play in the water I recommend bringing a pair of water sandals.
