Grand Canal Trail is a 11.7 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Phoenix, Arizona. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking, walking, and road biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

The Squaw Peak 304. The Nature Trail (Squaw Peak 304) is a short loop that begins and ends on the eastern end of Squaw Peak Drive. It connects with the 302 (Freedom Trail), the 1A (Perl Charles Memorial) and the 8B (Ruth Hamilton. There is a little climbing, with a little huffing and puffing, but over all it is pretty easy.

Once more out on the Nature Trail today. Haven't been out much lately, so rushed out for a quick on the nearby trail. It;s not bad, really. Not at all challenging, but still very picturesque, and it does connect to more challenging and interesting trails. I was spoiled living at South Mountain, and now I just take what I can get. Still, not too bad.

The Nature Trail (304) is an insignificant little trail, being a loop that is only 1.7 miles from end to end. But it goes places! It crosses the 302 (Freedom), the 1A (Perl Charles Memorial), the 8 (L.V. Yates), and the 8B (Ruth Hamilton). It is not heavily traveled, and it provides a fair amount of solitude. The trick of Squaw Peak to me is finding solitude and this trail provides it. Of course, today it is 115 degrees and there was solitude galore, but even on mild days there is not much traffic on the trail. It is a fun trail, and a good connector to other more challenging trails. The 1.7 miles can easily become five or six.

The Nature Trail (304) is a short loop that begins and ends on the east end of Squaw Peak Drive. There is a western entry point and an eastern entry point. I have been on it several times, and I usually start on the west and end on the east. The loop connects with several other trails, including Freedom Trail (302), Perl Charles Memorial (1A), LV Yates (8), and Ruth Hamilton (8B), The 302 and 1A from there go all the way around the mountain. One day on the 1A, I came to the Irregular Link which was great in itself. 304 is an easy trail, with just a little bit of rock stair-stepping up. At the end of trail, or end at least with my usual west to east route, there is a fairly dramatic descent to a broad wash. If it were flowing, it could be a river! Going the other way, east to west, that would be a climb. A good trail to know, and a handy connection point to other important trails.
