The day was perfect to explore the lush green foliage along the bank of the Colorado river. At the beginning, families picnicked on the beach and waded in the water. The sounds were full of Mexican music, traffic and trains. A few tubers were in paradise as they meandered the river without a care. The sandy path exercised the calves of my legs. Bees extracted nectar from purple blooms and white pollen floated through sun beams. A few tidbits: I entered the latitude longitude into the GPS to arrive at a one lane bridge over-top of the park. After a U-turn it was a simple matter to find the parking lot below and to the west. I did not see signage for the East Wetlands Interpretive Trail. Instead, there are signs for the Juan Buatista De Anza National Historic Trail (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Bautista_de_Anza_National_Historic_Trail) and the Charles Flynn Riverfront Trail. Apparently, the former is over 1200 miles long, so this is just a part of it.

Easy trail. We needed mosquito repellent when we walked trail. Historic old jail nearby was very fascinating to imagine the old west and all it’s complications!

Went out first time and we all loved it. Wonderful to see the river and the trail is nicely kept. It is a very nice easy on level terrain. Get out and enjoy the wetlands. Loved being by the river.

I've walked this trail a few times over the past yrs.. at one time it was easy walking and offered a canopy of trees that offered shade during the hotter temps as well as a nice calm and relaxing atmosphere. Over the last couple of yrs I've noticed a lot of underbrushing and trees/ shrub removal which I assumed would eventually be groomed. Evidently not. Seems to be more clearings and remnants of trees/bushes/branches awaiting for a major cleanup. Definitely not as pretty a walk as it used to be. There is still a lot of work to be done. Bathrooms are not equipped with soap to wash and often are out of tissue paper. So be warned to bring your own and hand sanitizer.

My dogs liked this walk, but from a human perspective it was boring, the interpretive signs few and far between, and mostly on an ugly dirt road.

This trail is not as bad as the reviews. It is a large walking trail (barely any elevation gain). But pretty and quiet and long. We hike four miles of it. We were able to have our dogs off leash. We did run into a large rattlesnake spread out across the trail. So take the rattlesnake warning sign seriously. Our dogs have had rattlesnake training fortunately. I’d come back again if I lived in this area.

I agree with the earlier review of this area, a true disappointment. This area was once the showcase for the trail system along the river and now it is ugly. It looks as though the City has either run out of money or has decided to let nature take its course, which ever it is not an enjoyable place to visit. I would recommend utilizing the West Wetlands as well, the City has done a great job in this area.

What a huge disappointment. run down, trails not maintained, bathrooms beyond filthy, obvious no one had been there to clean in ages. Didn't feel like a safe place to be. Only good thing was the beautiful mission on the hill behind it but you can see that without going to this so called park. Highly recommend you go to Yuma West Wetlands instead. A million times better.

Convenient location. Easy walking. Bike trails as well. Trail runs along Colorado River and frequently has a variety of birds.

Excellent...unique opportunity to see diverse wildlife (fish, mammal, bird) in desert environment. Great job by Yuma to bring this area back to life!

This was a good walk. We waited until 10:30am to get started. For This time of year it was a little too hot already. I would recommend earlier in the morning. Most of the trail is in the direct sun. There is only shady areas at the beginning.
