It was almost impossible to stay on trail. We thought we were on trail multiple times but we end up at a dead end and then see the trail 5 feet above us then go onto it then be at a dead end again! It’s really nice near the trail head but once you can’t walk along the river anymore it’s just confusing and extremely overgrown.

Lame! Litter and cow dung and graffiti and no real trail. It was actually kind of gross. This was a serious disappointment.

I would do this again, but I would go during the winter. The area was beautiful, though the the water was muddy brown. There was a few cairns but not much of a trail. We were walking through some tall grass when I stopped to express my concern about snakes and not being able to see my feet. My buddy came up behind me and and suddenly yelled “snake”! A rattlesnake took off through and almost on top of the long grass less than 5 feet from where I had just walked a few seconds earlier. Very scary, and we quickly turned around and got back to where you could see the ground....

I just got turned around, it’s closed. Most everything North of payson is closed. South of Payson is open. Will update rating when I get the chance to go.

We had a great hike. was short and was finished in 1 1/2 hours and we stopped a bunch of times. trail is difficult to find most the time, but what makes that ok is your walking along the river and you can blaze your own way. passed about 8 families along the way and a group fishing in a large area with about 6 fish on their stringer. it's may 20 and temp was good.(80 degrees)

Hiked to flowing river rd from bridge. Very pretty but trail not maintained, which kinda made it more fun. Definitely not easy hike due to footing and lack of trail maintenance but can’t complain-I’m sure that whole canyon is a rushing river after monsoons and big rains-washing away any trail anyways. Great photo ops, babbling creek and rock climbing. Literally right off the highway- so easy access. Graffiti is limited to bridge-look to the west for giant cave-great for fire pit/camping and chill. Dogs loved it off the leash!

Nice little Trail right up against the Verde River there is some graffiti under the bridge. Hiking Northast the trails real easy to find south of the river one mile North you run into a road and the trail gets harder to find but you can't really get lost as there is a road to your left as you're hiking Northeast south of the river. I did this hike in the late fall it would be beautiful I think in the spring and summer. as a moderate skill mountain biker I don't think it's rideable. I would not consider that hike moderate but there are a lot of ankle twisting River Rock

I couldn’t really figure out the trail but it was pretty and the water was perfect. I’m giving it 3 stars because my dog loved swimming! There was also some graffiti which took away from the beautiful views

Unbelievable beautiful. Not to many people either. We wandered around on and off trail and got around fine.

Although this trail might be scenic at some time, as of August 15, 2017, there is no way to know without what I would call extreme hiking. Apparently the significant amount of rain that has visited the area recently has almost completely obliterated the trail. After several hundred yards from the parking lot, the trail becomes nothing more than mud holes and a vague suggestion of a trail. The trail is unmarked, and not maintained. As a result, unless you want to slosh through a lot of mud and standing water alongside the actual river bed, I would wait at least a few weeks, if not a couple months, before trying this trail. Although one star might be harsh for the trail as we did not get very far, and the scenery we did see was very nice, I did not know what else to rate it under the circumstances. Perhaps "incomplete" would be better at this time.

Pretty area, interesting rocks, cliffs and bluffs. Lost the trail soon after starting. When we finally found one, the area is so heavily trafficked and not maintained, trails cross-cross all over the place between the plethora of campsites...or rather, party sites. So much trash all over the place! Also toilet paper everywhere we thought to "explore." Animals dig up buried poop and TP for the rest of us to enjoy because they love what we eat. Keeping a small ziploc baggie in a pocket is an easy way to pack out used TP.

This was a great camping spot, but I assumed this was more of a hiking trail when this was really more of a drive and camp trail. Still had a great time and the river and waterhole view was amazing.

Great Sunday drive! A few 'loose Rock' areas requiring some all wheel drive action, and certainly not traversable without some clearance (stock Grand Cherokee with TrailHawk package).

The views are spectacular, and the trail is great. Great opportunties to swim and camp here. I camp all the time up here, it is my go to spot! Great way to beat the PHX heat!

One of my favorites because there are awesome swimming holes. Great for backpacking or just a day hike, car camoing is also an option. There are also some indian ruins if you hike back awhile.
