Just got back from the Appalachian Trail and a few more on the way home to Globe. There were some Arizona Conservation Corps members working on the East Mountain Trail as we started. The trail begins near Pioneer Pass and even at midday it remains mostly in the shade of Ponderosas. The views along the ridge are refreshing to the soul and the elevation gradients are not too difficult. The trail surface is mostly crushed granite. If I had a wish it'd be for a perennial stream nearby. After all these miles it's so nice return to the Pinal Mountains!
This trail was hard to find, but worth it! We had a great time, and they allow dogs (on leash). The vistas were terrific!
