Great trail! I run it at least 3 times a week. It’s great for trail running, hiking, biking. Great views at the top of Goldmine and Dynamite Saddle. We usually climb up Goldmjne first which gets the heart pumping then run down around Dynamite back to gate. There is a portapotty and limited parking. I’m only there at 5am so it’s pretty open then. You do need a pass or there are envelopes to pay the $7 day use fee.

If you start at the Goldmine trailhead, that is closed. If you go to the main parking lot off of Phillips, then add on the little hike from the lot to the Goldmine and San Tan trail crossing, you can do this hike. It’s maybe an extra mile or so. We opted to take the trail counterclockwise, which had us do the more difficult up trail and then steeper down trail over the peak. Then you have an easy hike around the mountain after you hook up with the Dynamite trail. There were a LOT of bugs. Also I will not try going to this park on the weekend anymore. We waited in a line for 40 minutes because they were letting in one car at a time after another car would leave. We got a late start and it got hot since we planned to be out and back earlier.

We did a loop, starting from dynamite and ending with goldmine. Definitely better hiking the other way around i.e. clockwise. Not very good maintained trail. Overall not bad.

Have $7 cash to be able to pay for parking. If not you’ll get a ticket and have to pay later anyways. Cash only at the lot.
