We did the Spur Cross Trail to Tortuga and took the Jewel of the Creek Loop then the Tortuga Trail home. 4.9 miles total. It was a wonderful hike with Great changes in terrain. It was especially beautiful along the creek. Highly recommended.

Loved this trail! Short and sweet with some fun stream crossings, loads of scenery, and smallish elevation changes.

Great trail and it offers lots of beautiful vegetation and rock formations. During the winter and spring there’s a creek. Also an old abandoned mine shaft (which is off limits). Tons of saguaro cacti as far as the eye can see. One downfall is the parking is limited so if it’s crowded, you likely won’t have a place to park your car.

An easy, tranquil, and beautiful hike. A bit confusing to get to, down a long road going mostly to houses, spotted a few coyotes just running around on it. Once you get to the parking, you have to walk back down the road to the trail entry, and then you are off. Beautiful tall grass lines certain sections, with gorgeous views in certain spots. Tall trees with wide canopies, and even a small creek running through it that you get to walk over. And yes, tons of dragonflies in the area.

Loved! Took Chandler (my dog) and went across the creek, then back to head downstream via the dragonfly trail to the pond. Many other dogs and young families. Beautiful desert views with saguaros. Feels far from a city.

This was a great basic hike where you experience some water in there creek, incredible looking cactus, and some shady areas with trees all in one desert hike. I have arthritis in my spine and this was a good hike that didn’t create too much discomfort at all while also bringing the dog along. This trail is free to use, and the trail head is not marked, but there is a small parking lot in front of what looks like a house, before you actually get to the paid area of the park.

Really cool change from the normal rocky trails normally found in this area.

We did Dragonfly to Spur Cross Trail. It is a beautiful hike, no issues crossing the creek. Easy hike.

An easy and beautiful hike, surrounded by towering saguaros and a variety of cacti. Golden cottonwoods, even at this time of year. A beautiful creek which we crossed over two times. This was our first time hiking in this area, and we will come back to try some easy-to-moderate trails.

beautiful views!! great scenery! walks right up to the river. this trail would normally be a loop where you cross thru the river bed, walk along the river and then cross back over and finish the loop. unfortunately after a rain the river was too high for us to cross this time around to do the whole trail. so this review is for the portion we were able to enjoy. we attempted to boulder scramble and walk along side the river for maybe .4 miles before it got too treacherous to continue but the views were beautiful the whole way. the river running along side us was so beautiful & it was definetly a lovely hike.

We were looking for a short, flat hike and this fit the bill. One caution, however, if you go clockwise and follow the Dragonfly Trail signs you’ll end up with a much longer hike than the one shown in the route. Stick with the creek bed and look for Jewel of the Creek signs on the way back. We caught our mistake before heading too far up the much longer signed Dragonfly Trail.

Today’s hike was only 1.8 miles round trip and took us 1.5 hours to walk. We had all three kids (9,6,3 years) and all did great. It was in Cave Creek about 30 minutes north of Phoenix. It was 83° outside when we started and it was very hot on the hike. There was some shade but not a lot. We crossed over the steam twice, there were 2x4 boards to walk on for us. There was also a small kids size cave that they could explore. There were some rats at the end though so have the kids proceed with some caution. The scenery was great and the saguaro cactus were amazing.

Wonderful hike with spectacular views. When you go through Cave Creek and turn down N. Spur Cross Rd, there are little brown signs with an arrow pointing straight ahead, leading you to the trail. However when you arrive at the little parking lot for the trail access, it is a bit confusing at first, because there is no sign there announcing that it is the Dragonfly (or Jewel of the Creek) trailhead. But you will see a brown metal gate (rather not noticeable). That will be the entrance to the trailhead. The trail is very easy to follow, only gets a little rocky in a few short spots. We really enjoyed our hike there!!! Bring lots of water.

Picturesque views especially down by the creek and looking up at the saguaros! My 3rd hike to this area since the rains and tho the water level is lower it retains its charm.

Nice trail. We took our family here to walk and see the Saguaro cactus while on spring break in Arizona. This trail was well maintained and very scenic. We had many great views of wildflowers, cacti, and the river, which was just what we wanted!

This is a beautiful area with great views. You cross the creek and cross a few larger boulders to step down (or up) on which was a little tough on my bad knee, but overall an amazing beautiful hike!
