This was a nice hike. It felt very secluded, which was enjoyable. I didn’t encounter a single human during the entire hike. I saw lots of critters though! Antelope squirrel, cactus wren, assorted finches and a jackrabbit! The first mile or so of the hike was an old access road until you reach the original Coldwater trailhead. After that, it’s great!

Wonderful trail! Loved the different terrain and all the hills and views. I would love to add more trails to it next time to see more of the beautiful desert. Came across only 3 groups on the whole trail and took about 2 hours to do the full loop.

This is a great hilly walk. I would almost rate it as easy if it weren’t for the length. There are tons of wildflowers and beautiful desert foliage; however, there is no shade, so be aware of the time of day you start and bring plenty of water. There is little, if any, cell service for the middle 3 miles of the hike, so make sure to bring an apple or little snack just in case. For anyone wanting to get out and away from the crowds for a relaxing hike, this is the place. We came across only 3 other hikers for the entire 6.5 miles midday on Sunday! The trails are well maintained and labeled, and the trail map feature of this app is spot on with the physical trails.

We started at the Coldwater trail and then came around to Butterfield trail. wish we would have done it the other way. Butterfield is a little tougher and would have liked to have had the easier trail on my second half of the trail.

Must take Coldwater to Gadsden and go L until you hit Butterfield and take another left in order to make this loop. Decent trail run through Coldwater and Butterfield gave the legs a good work out with lots of steep ups and downs. These two trails are good for running although it should get an overall 3 stars because Gadsden was not a good running trail and had lots of large rocks/boulders plus a lot of deep sand to try and run through. Keep an eye out for signs while on Gadsden because they are not as clearly marked as I think are needed.
