Getting There

The unique architecture and location of the Chapel, inspirations from the Empire State Building when observed that a cross could be seen when viewed from a certain angle. Designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright student, Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel was built in 1956 and rises 200 feet from the ground between two large red rock formations. One of the most distinctive features is a 90-foot cross, which can be seen from the ground along State Route 179. A massive stained glass window turns the chapel's interior into a kaleidoscope of color at certain times of the day. No services are held here, but it provides an ideal setting for spiritual reflection and prayer as well as incredible views of the Red Rocks. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Chapel Hours: Daily 9am - 5pm Sunday 10am - 5pm Hours: Open daily except Thanksgiving, December 25, Good Friday and Easter Reservations: Not required Cost: No admission fee How Long: Allow half an hour Best Time to Visit: Any time, but the front and stained glass window are better-lit in the afternoon

Pretty views, tons of people, not much of a hike you can park basically at the top!

This is less of a trail but more of a walk up to the Chapel, which is just an amazing landmark. It is only open from 9-5pm, need mask to go inside, lots of people but most wearing masks. Very short. It’s nice but it’s not a trail/hike per se but worth it for the views.

Very scenic - not a hike. More of a walk up a paved driveway. You can also drive to the top.

Very scenic. It’s not a hike, just a walk up a ramp.

The trial is beautiful. Loved the views, and the shade at the end is fabulous. Access to the trailhead does not open until 9am when the Chapel opens the gates. Definitely recommend!

Easy trail that covers many different types of terrains. Sandy to rocky to large rock plateaus (all with great views) to pine forest (no view but cool trees). It’s out and back so you can see views of the Chapel on the way back good photo ops. Not tiring. The guy driving the golf cart to take people up to the chapel—a very short walk from the trail head parking lot—told me that the core of the vortex was located under the circular “seal” right outside the chapel door. It was worth seeing but crowded. People trying to meditate while others were chatting away with their cell phones on speaker. First time I’ve seen crowds. Went and did another “easy” labeled hike right after and felt like I got an all-around great workout for the day traversing some diverse landscapes. 4.5 rating

Easy trail. Did it with my boyfriend and his kids, 5yo and 10yo. It's an open and pretty wide trail. Very interesting to see the dried up creeks and walk across layers of natural stone instead of gravel.

“Chapel trail to chicken point via little horse trail” This provides the shortest access for a non-4x4 to get to chicken point. Great trail!

Walking

Chapel of the Holy Cross Trail. We have several ways to explore connecting more deeply with yourself, nature- and others. It is not really a hike, it has the road to walking up and backing down, (little over a mile, a little steep). But they have shuttles since they don’t have enough parking. Very unique architecture Chapel. I can see the Cross from certain angles. Make donations at the Chaple are very nice thing I would love to do. Heal and transform your mind. I will come back to visit HIM again every time I’m hiking Sedona.

Very easy trail! Make sure to bring hat / sunblock because there’s not much shady areas at all (I hiked it midday when the sun was OUT). Great views
