Trail is well marked and the views are great. However I would suggest that you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to the trail head. The road to the trail head is not for the faint at heart. I questioned at times while driving to the trail head if it was worth the risk. There is a sign at the bridge that this road is not intended for passenger vehicles. One lane dirt road makes it difficult if you meet someone coming in the opposite direction.

This is my preferred trail up to Carr Peak. While it does immediately start out with a. .3-mile steep and Rocky grade, there is a year-round spring at the half-mile mark (before entering the Miller Wilderness) where I stop to let my dogs drink and splash around. The spring is reinforced with a black tub. This trail joins the main trail and the Ramsey Vista trail at the .75- mile mark. There is ample parking at the trailhead across from the group campground.
