Beyond beautiful trail. About 3 miles in there is a small waterfall and a plane crash. Both are awesome to see. The hike back out is killer so save your energy. Sheer uphill cliffs the whole way back. A lot of the hike is very green/lush. The trail is overgrown and footing is sketchy in many parts..come prepared.

I would recommend to more experienced hikers. Lots of overgrown spots and not so clear trail markings. Would also recommend wearing pants! Lots of bees too, and saw some fresh bear poop. Also probably great for bird watching Very beautiful vistas, but did only half the trail because the gps got us confused and trail in All trails didn’t match the trail on maps. Maybe gps problem on my end. Started on the opposite end near palisades and hitchcock.

Really good hard hike! Careful though, we saw a bear and a rattlesnake

Starts out easy. Then quickly starts to get steep downhill fairly quickly. Went as far as Crystal & turned back. Almost all uphill. Hiking time 1. 5 hours

Be in good hiking shape for this one if you do the full five miles and especially if you go back. Bring something to eat and lots of water. Your climbs are rewarded with some spectacular views. Beautiful trail but definitely earns the hard rating

Absolutely beautiful hike. We took Butterfly trail there and hiked back by going over Mt. Bigalow and the campgrounds, which makes a loop that is about 3 km shorter than going back the way you came. For the most part of the hike you'll have beautiful wide views down the mountains. The trail is pretty overgrown on large sections of the trail and we spend about half the trail picking spider webs out of our faces. We took a steeper shortcut because there were some junctions that aren't on the map here. Pretty steep in some places, which makes it, together with the beautiful views, a great hike.

This was absolutely a beautiful trail to hike. It was mostly risky and downhill for the most part. After a little over 5 miles hiking back up kicked my ass. Other than that a very scenic and beautiful location.

Beautiful hike starting above 8000 ft. Trailhead is easy to find and despite some recent growth, the trail is easy to follow. If you plan to hike the whole trail, I recommend starting early and bring your energy, your enthusiasm and some great hiking partners! You will absolutely enjoy it! At this elevation and really anwwhere in AZ, just remember to bring PLENTY of water! - Guido Fronte

Decent trail does have multiple downed logs. Theres also a crashed plane fairly close to the main trail. Some small areas to camp at but they are few and far between.

Nice trail, a bit busy, otherwise great experience.

This trail was so overgrown instead of returning back on the trail once I reached the road, I took the road back to the trailhead. It may be nice in mid-spring or mid-fall but I wouldn't recommend it during the summer at all.

Lovely well traveled and extremely well maintained if you start it at the upper trailhead a few miles before Summerhaven. Lots of bird song and some wonderful views. It's mostly downhill - we did 2 miles and came back out - slow going if you are not in shape.

Hiked to the plane crash site enjoyed lunch and headed back to the trailhead. Nice trail but quite a few down trees but still passable.

Hike was decent, although snow covered the trail on the way in. If there wasn't already nice foot prints from someone who hiked it before us that day we may have turned back (most of the snow was on steep cliffs, places where you would not want to fall). Some recent fallen trees covered the path in some areas but they were easy to get around. The trail does really need some maintenance though, as there was many areas with dry branches you had to walk through that scratched us up along with another group we encountered hiking the trail. We hiked till around where the plane crash was supposed to be but we weren't able to find it. It was much tougher hiking out then in!!

This is one of my favorites so far! The views are so beautiful. I would consider it a moderate hike as the trail narrows at certain points and it's a little uphill most of the way back, but not too bad and there's usually plenty of shade.

Great trail. With a bit of history to be found above the falls.
