The Gila trail was not clearly marked on the South Mountain Preserve site map so my group decided to wing it. We followed the Bursera Trail west for about 2.5 miles with it seeing any obvious trail forks. It was when we decided to turn back we saw what we can only assume was the Gila trail, but that's still unknown. This landscape is barren, even for a dessert. The landscape lacked color and the views were boring. For the agony it took to climb the trail there was no payoff.
