I went all the way to what I thought was Mt. Ajo, but I think was a false summit along that trail. There is an unofficial but pretty obvious and well-cairned trail to the summit, and it is SUPER fun! After Bull Pasture, the trail get very steep in places, but just in a strenuous way, not a dangerous one. Incredible views! Took approx. 8 hrs. total out and back to the summit via the Bull Pasture-Mt. Ajo trail.

Great views, coming back in the canyon was spectacular.

Excellent trail. The second time I’ve done it. The views are outstanding! Be sure to bring lots of water! We did a little extra hiking on an unmaintained trail heading towards Mt. Ajo until we ran into too much steep scrambling. Coming back down from Bull Pasture we descended back to the trailhead using the Estes Canyon trail to make a loop hike. Beautiful!

this is a loop trail..would recommend going up the steep shorter 1 mile trail and coming out the longer 1.6 mile easier walking trail; although it is sketchy at times....especially where it crosses washes....the two meet at a junction with the 0.6 mile bull pasture trail which is steep and rocky... the entire route is stunning...flowers, rock features...took 4 hours of actual walking time.

This was my first trip I ever took to Arizona to visit my uncle and this hike looked amazing from the pictures I saw so we went. It was a pretty hot day for being April (easily 90 degrees). But it can get up too 118 here in the summer. There are 28 species of cactus out here including prickly pear, barrel, saguaro, and the famous organ pipe. Watch out for the cholla plants. They have really sharp barbs. Animals here include everything from birds to gila monsters, rabbits, javelina, scorpions, and rattlesnakes. I didn't see any snakes on this hike but they are around. Don't forget the hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. And be sure to take plenty of water and snacks. It gets very hot out here and you will need them as this is a pretty strenuous hike up near the top.

Short trail with beautiful views. Going counter-clockwise was great advice. Also, once you reach Bull Pasture, I wouldn't bother pushing further like the map on AllTrails shows. It continues for another 20 minutes and gives you a bit of a view of another part of the part, but nothing compared to Bull Pasture.

Why come all this way if you aren't going to summit Mount Ajo? It's a beautiful hike.

Nice hike. I'd like to have continued up to Mount Ajo summit.

Great view at the top, be sure to take the trail counterclockwise for an easier return hike.

Pretty steep the last half mile. And don't let the false summit trick you. Keep going up to the ridge where you find the Bull Pasture sign :)
