Tips

Although fairly short, the Broken Arrow Trail is considered one of the best jeep roads in Arizona. It is extremely fun to drive, hike, or ride, and the red rock scenery is out of this world. Some of the notable features include great views, slick rock, unique rock formations like Submarine Rock (this route does not go to Submarine Rock, but you can view it from here), Chicken Point, and Devil’s Dining Room Sinkhole. This is an extremely popular route and traffic can be very heavy at times. Pull-outs are provided. Do not widen the trail by trying to pull over anywhere other than the pull-outs. You may have to back up. This is also a very popular hiking and mountain biking area, so be alert and courteous at all times. If you park, hike, or stop along the route, you'll need a Red Rocks Pass Located in Coconino National Forest. For current conditions call Red Rock Ranger District (928) 203-2900. The parking lot is located off of Morgan Road. Several large rock ledges require high ground clearance but the obstacles are not overwhelming because little articulation is required. The hardest obstacle is called, "The Steps," which is driven downhill. This obstacle is very steep and will be intimidating to an inexperienced driver; however, stock SUVs with high ground clearance should be able get down just fine. You may scrape bottom so skid plates are recommended. This trail is very well marked and easy to follow.

Take a picnic lunch and stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful views. Temporary fire restrictions may be in effect. Always call ahead to verify area usage. Trail conditions can change without notice.

LOVE this trail! We started at 10 am and snagged the last open parking spot. Likely someone who had already hiked. We started at Broken arrow trail. I HIGHLY recommend taking the .50 trail offshoot to submarine rock. 360° view of Sedona. The breeze kept it cooler along the entire hike. We made it a loop and did the Broken Arrow trail, a short out and back to Submarine rock, then looped to High on the Hog and finished with Twin Buttes. It was around 4 miles total. Take plenty of water. This was not the hike to just take it easy. Plenty of areas you can get off trail and Boulder. Terrain can be slick in areas and there are portions that are a little frightening for anyone scared of heights. Highly recommend this trail.

Beautiful trail, moderate terrain. Every turn has a new view. Bring plenty of water. Chicken point is an excellent view, try and make it to the end. You do have to be mindful of the bikers. There are quite a few.

Good hike. Lots of beautiful 360 views! Got the last parking spot at 8am. Bring lots of water! There are a few shady spots to rest. Not a very difficult trail.

HikingGreat!

Absolutely incredible panoramic views. The view at the end is stunning. I made it a loop and returned via High on the hog and Twin Butte path thanks to another commenter. Highly recommend taking the loop! I would rate as easy as opposed to moderate honestly. Very nice trail for a rest day or when you’ve finished another hike but still have energy. It wasn’t crowded at all other than at Chicken Point where there were some Jeep tours. Overall, great hike. I arrived at 4pm and had no problem with parking and saw barely anyone on the trail.

Phenomenal hike from Broken Arrow to Chicken Point. We made it a loop on return back via High on the Hog and Twin Butte - which we very highly recommend! Unbelievable views every step of the way with countless snack stops and photo pops. Parking is meager, get there early. That way you can miss some of the jeeps too. Fave hike in Sedona so far!

Great moderate hike with pretty views. Our 4 and 6 year old did great, but they are big hikers. There is a big sink hole you can see where bats roost.

We got hit with ice pellets on an overcast day, but this hike was still gorgeous at several points. A few minor ups and downs but nothing too difficult. It was short enough that I didn't even bother to bring water. Great hike for the whole family.

This was a nice and relaxing rocky hike. Every bit of the 2.8 miles was full of great views with a spectacular one at the end.
