This “Easy” rating is misleading. It is easy and relatively level ground from Indian Gardens, but you have to hike down into Indian Gardens first, and then back out, of course. From the Bright Angel Trailhead the hike round trip is around 12 or so miles out and back. The hike back up to the rim is still a pretty good butt kicker, super fun but I would class as Moderate at best, definitely not Easy.

The description of the trail is misleading. Yes, the trail itself is just easy 1.1 mi walk BUT, to get to the trailhead you need to hike entire Bright Angel Trail about 5 miles down. The plateau point sits 3080 feet deep from the rim. To reach the point you would have to hike 3000 feet down for 6.1 miles and then you need to go up. That’s about 9-12 hours trip and in red (difficult) zone on the official Grand Canyon trail map.

Walking through the flat plateau is like another planet, surrounded by the canyon about 3,000 feet above this hike is flat, scattered with cactus, sage bush, cat mint and probably some other plants I don’t know, the smells are very delightful. Once we reached the plateau we hiked down into rock faces along the canyon to see beautiful views of the Colorado river. I could hear the rushing of the river.

If you pass by Indian Garden, you have to make that small hike. It's a very easy hike that is worth the detour, even if you were down at colorado river. We did it along with South Kaibab trail to phantom ranch and up to bright angel in a day. It was a big day but in November the temperature are much better. The extra 1.4 mile were absolutely worth it (took us about 1 hour total)

great views of the Colorado River. On our way back the sun came out illuminating the north Rim and gave spectacular views of the far mountains not really able to capture the beauty in my photos
