Hiking

This is a great scenic drive with a ranch homestead and several very nice trails along the way. The hikes are great virtually any time of year. We did this in late June, and because of the altitude, it was very comfortable. Not excessively hot at all. Don't miss The Grotto out on the Echo Canyon Trail. The trails themselves, are well maintained and relatively easy to do. Enjoy!!

I actually had the, what I'm assuming is unique, opportunity to walk this entire road from Echo Canyon to the visitor centre, plus the 2ish miles from there to the main gate, and I've gotta say, I do not recommend it... Don't get me wrong, the view is pretty incredible and features a surprisingly wide variety of different landscapes to look at, but like others have said, it's got nothing on the big loop trails... It's probably worth nothing that I made this hike out of necessity in mostly pitch black dark after about 10 hours of filming and hiking with relatively cumbersome equipment. I had been the day before when the gate remained closed all day, so I parked outside the main gate before sunrise and hiked the Sarah Deming route to Echo Canyon, but didn't make it there til 4:30ish, and having never been on these trails, I opted for this hike rather than trying to follow an unfamiliar trail in the dark... Once again, I do not recommend walking this... It's also worth nothing that in my 13ish hours there, I never saw a single person... Actually saw more mountain lions than people, which is obviously a win. #GovernmentShutdownSilverLining

The drive is nice but the hike into the rocks was world's better!

There's lots of places to see in the Chiricahua mountains of S.E. Arizona. Chiricahua National Monument is definitely one of them. This is called the wonderland of rocks, and you'll see why when you get here. This is a nice drive to the top of Massai Point, and the view from there is great. There are a couple other side roads that you can take to different viewpoints also. There are lots of trails you can hike along this road too. The rock formations are the highlight though. There is a nice visitor center at the bottom of the canyon, and a campground a short ways up the road too. If you are ever in this area, it's worth the drive over here to check it out, even if you don't do any hiking.
