We covered all these connecting trails as part of a backpacking adventure (thus covered this loop counter-clockwise). The Dutchman trail was easy and enjoyable and the view kept getting better and better, view of Weaver's Needle and Palomino Mtn at approx. 2.5 - 3 mile in.

There are a few camping spots where Dutchman trail meets Black Mesa trail (approx. 4 mile in). Turning left, Black Mesa trail is an incline about 1 mile but the view is fantastic! The highlight of this trail. Turn back and soak in the views if you are completing this trail counterclockwise (I recommend clockwise loop if you want to avoid the incline). Very little shade so please take lots of water and snacks!

This hike was good. Semi-arid scenery and loved the reddish-brown rocks as the light changed on them. Went clockwise, lots of good views of the Needles.

Rated Hard, but it's not hard, it's moderate, many would even say it's easy, it's just long. Take snacks or lunch and plenty of fluids. You'll need some route finding skills on the transition from 140 to 241, download the map then you'll have no problems. Prettier if you do it clockwise as you'll have all the great views of the needle in front of you, not behind. closer to 9 miles than 8.2 according to my GPS. Take second water trail (236) to Black Mesa Trail (241) to First water trail (104), for a clockwise trip. Took me just under four hours with no stops, hiking solo.

Nice hike. Not to difficult, just a little long (9 miles). Hiked the loop clockwise. Saw a Gila monster and two Diamond Back rattlesnakes. Several excellent views of Weavers Needle.

Fantastic hike, the only one we have rated a 5 so far. A wide variety of terrain, plant & elevation changes that make this hike beautiful and leaves you wondering whats around the next corner. The best part, unlike most hikes we have taken in the Phoenix area, is the solitude and lack of civilization experienced. It.s rated as strenuous, but I disagree. Maybe long for some , but not hard.

Would consider this trail moderate in difficulty. From First Water trailhead took Dutchman trail to Black Mesa trail and then looped back on Second Water trail, for a total of 9 miles. There are some moderately steep sections, but overall the trail is a fairly easy trek and not hard to follow. Wonderful views of Superstition area, including Weaver's Needle.

hiked Black Mesa today looking for a lost hiker. Sad did not find him yet missing for four days so far.

5 hours going counter-clockwise. Beautiful views on an overcast cool day. Loose rocks on some of the trail can be a bit treacherous; sturdy hikers and plenty of water is a must. Lots of various Weavers Needle poses throughout hike.

9.2. Great day, lots of sunshine and wild flowers. Took about 41/2 hours. We did the loop clockwise and I'd recommend going that direction. ☀️☀️☀️. Take plenty of water!!!
