Red Rocks Pass for $5 needed; kiosk located at trail head parking lot. 360 degree views at top are unforgettable. Bring a wind breaker to layer up with since it could get windy and cold at summit. There is a deceptive false summit beforehand after which you do descend into a small saddle. Wasn’t difficult to climb back up this thing coming back. Wear shoes with good traction! It’s a rugged trail and some sections are on pure rock at an almost vertical drop.

This was a challenge. TH starts across street from parking lot. Nice stroll up into a mountain that has some steep ascent. That first ascent is near the halfway point. The views start happening left and right, esp a slot canyon on a second ascent. But it’s that mountain you were seeing all before that is your final top. And that final ascent feels steepest of all, esp after all the hike done so far. Not much shade. Water goood. About half the dozen hikers we saw had sticks. Great views. Has you wondering which other spots in the distance would be good hikes.

Tough hike but so so worth it. Give yourself at least 5 hours, ideally 6 hours to rest at the top. Have at least 3 L of water per person. The views up there are stunning. The challenge is real. This hike is no joke and wow I’m so glad I challenged myself to do it!

Hard Af endurance wise.. technically not hard

We completed in 3:15 including water / photo breaks and lunch at the summit. Cooler weather and not too much sun helped us a lot. Very challenging climb for a couple of prairie people, but we loved it, the views are second to none.

Wildly fun trail. Bring 2x as much water as you think you need, especially with a dog. And if you bring a dog, make sure they’re able to climb/jump some large rocks. Great hike, but wears you down fast. Views and picture opportunities are plentiful and beautiful. Excellent trail late in the season.

A challenge for me, but worth it. The views along the trail were beautiful. Bring plenty of water, hiking shoes/boots. I don’t use poles but the 15-20 we saw hiking - at least 1/2 did.

Awesome trail !! We enjoyed the red Rocks , all views, it is short but don’t diminish the almost 5 mile round trip, it is steep and scramble but it also has very even portions that you can walk easy. We saw 25 more people , nobody with dogs though. My recommendation is start early (we started at 7 am) and bring water , a sports drink and a snack . We did 4:50 hrs with 5 stops to drink water and one for our lunch (homemade ham sandwich )

Did this memorial weekend. It was brutal but rewarding. I can’t imagine doing this in the dead of summer. Multiple false summits. Great views along the entire trail.

Incredible views of Sedona, Boynton Canyon and out to Prescott Valley. Reach the summit and you can see San Francisco Peaks in the distance. You will be above helicopters. Best views aren’t from the final summit but worth it to finish. Bring lots of water. Went with my husband mid September. We’re in good shape (I’m a fitness instructor), have climbed 14ers in Colorado, and used to heat but this was rough towards the end. Brought 2 liters + a 24 oz bottle each and finished with about 10 oz to spare. Lots of false peaks so don’t get discouraged. Wish we brought poles for the trip down. Watch for rattlesnakes we definitely encountered one on the trail. Took us just under 5 hours starting at 8:30 (late night at kareoke) The mid day heat is what killed us, start earlier. Only ran into 3 other hiking couples, all pleasant. If you’re up for a challenge this is it!
