Getting There

This trail, as many in the Sedona area, is connected to several other trails. One popular addition is to add the first short part of the Templeton Trail until Oak Creek turns north, then return to Baldwin.

From the center of the Village of Oak Creek at Highway 179, turn west on Verde Valley School Road for just over 4 miles, through town and past the school on to a parking area. Do not turn off this road, but continue forward. The trailhead is across road at the north end of the lot.

RunningFeeGreat!

Came to run this trail today around 3:30PM, parking lot was about half full, didn't see very many people on the trail. I went counterclockwise, and there was road noise on the west side which wasn't great. Views were pretty good in the south but not so much after going into the trees.

Gorgeous views and scenery, even in December. Trail had some steep inclines at points, but our 3 year old was able to manage with minimal assistance.

Nesbit not “easy” at certain points nor was it always well marked.

HikingGreat!

We really like this trail and appreciate any trailhead with bathrooms. We did this a couple times and preferred just walking down the road to start at the Red Rocks and look at the water from the mini "beach" right there. It is also fun to figure out where everyone is on the other side if you have been to Red Rocks Crossing (Crescent Moon). You cannot get to Red Rocks Crossing from here, you need to get there off 89a. We started this trail and then within a "block" or two of coming off the red rocks headed left on a sandy trail to get to the water and enjoy the views of Cathedral Rock. If you hit the area where the people come down the trail from the lot above you missed the way to get to the water (I think there is also a sign here perhaps for Templeton Trail, if you see that backtrack and head toward the water for the great views). I took Baldwin both directions, one follows along the same route I had taken when I visited Crescent Moon and has a little up and down and some shade. It is a pretty hike. The opposite direction has a little more elevation and is nice that you feel as though you are in a small canyon. We took it to the hiline trail and turned around. Do listen for bikers and make sure to get out of the way. .

HikingGreat!

There’s plenty of parking at the Verde Valley school entrance and it cost $5, pay with a credit card at machine. The 1.2 mile hike to the Hiline trail intersection is easy and children will enjoy it. You can easily turn around and continue back to the Templeton trail to see Cathedral Rock.
