We hiked around 14 miles today beautiful scenery in early November some fall colors. If we went 3 weeks ago the fall colors would have been peak. The sign will say 1 mile once you get to Walnut canyon but we also went like 3+ miles like other hiker reviews. Not a lot of traffic so perfect hike to enjoy the outdoors. Once you are past 3 miles in the Walnut Canyon the trail is overgrown so make carrins, very cool caves to venture in. We started the hike late didn't go to the monument but we took some really cool detours.

This trail is one of the prettiest I have been on! Not a difficult hike but the trail in spots is not very clear. Some of the plants are so overgrown. Park near the road closure and walk a bit through the houses.

Easy trail...beautiful scenery all the way thru, especially once you get to Walnut Canyon. The Fisher Point spur might be more moderate, but I elected to avoid that and go as far into Walnut Canyon as possible. There is a sign near the entrance stating that the trail goes for appx 1 mile...don't believe it! Good trail for about 2 miles, then it gets a bit thin. I covered over 3 miles in before deciding to turn around. Ended up making it about a 14 mile venture.

very nice hike! tons of stairs if you go in to the monument. I think they said the stairs take you 1000 feet down in elevation so I would call it moderate in difficulty. there was a fee but definitely worth it to see the ruins

Park at the barricades off of the main road. Then walk about 7 minutes to Fisher Point Trailhead.
It's pretty flat for several miles, but very pretty.
Good for biking or horse riding it seems.
Once you get to that cool cave fork in the road area, if you go left to Fisher point it is an awesome view. See my pics. If you go right there are some cool cliff dwellings/caves to check out.
I'd do it again, but. Would opt for using my bike next time for the first few miles and then chain it up for the steeper, rocky terrain toward the end.

Beautiful hike, we walked on the Arizona trail for a good three miles before we turned around. Saw deer and only a couple other people.

When doing this hike is important to know that many maps will not show an actual Walnut Canyon Trail, indeed much of this trail in not actually Walnut Canyon trail. You will start out doing the Fisher Point Trail then reach a point where you continue through the canyon rather than finish the remainder of Fisher Point trail.

Super easy hike and a great opportunity to get up close and personal with cliff dwellings. Bring binoculars because you can see many dwellings, across the canyon, from the path.
