Herbert River has been eroding parts of Herbert River Road and the road is now closed by a gate at Glacier Highway. This adds about a mile to the hike in to the cabin. The trail follows Herbert River through a Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock forest. The trail becomes muddy in the summer, although some of the worst areas have been graveled over. There is a Sockeye fishery opening accessible along the trail.
