Can be a popular trail with lots of people but a great short hike that builds a little sweat. says 881 high 505 steps up. Only one wood step is broke but not a big deal.

Some slick spots. Nothing that just paying attention can’t handle.

Great short hike, some steep parts, but doable for a 3 year old and 6 year old. Kids loved playing at the top & didn't want to leave

Easy train with amazing view. It was very muddy and wet which made some parts of the trail slippery.

The stairs killed me but it was definitely worth it!

Nice day hike, we took dogs and my 5 & 10year old hiked it easily. Easy slight elevation through woods until you get to the steps. We like it a lot more than the opposite side, not as dusty!

Loved this hike! Going up was a little harder than I thought... HOWEVER, the view was worth it at the top and the way down was very quick.

Definitely a moderate hike. This is the more kid-friendly side of the Butte. 505 total stairs (there is a sign at one point). Half maintained trail and half stairs. The views are amazing. Only one small rock climb area (3-4 foot total). Mostly shaded. $5 parking fee.

Lots of STAIRS!

Amazing view!! There are over 500 stairs that you have to climb to get to the top. there isn't much room on the stairs so you have to wait for people to pass

If you're out of shape, this trail is brutal. yes the view was great but they make you work for it. Coming down is even harder, my knees and hips hurt so bad.

Great hike with glacier, mountain, city, water views. Wildflowers. A few steep inclines and about 550 stairs but pretty short and easy.

A quick hike up with my daughter and it brought us to a beautiful view. We went on the super dusty side and weren’t aware of all the bugs! Definitely bring something to cover your mouth as you go up and lots of bug spray.

Nice trail. Don’t forget bug spray. The stairs start about a mile into the trail. It is worth it to go up the stairs, as the view is amazing.

Nice short hike, beautiful view of the glacier and the valley at the top. Go down the way you came up or you’ll be going the long way around the butte

Great hike. Lot of people out today. Good for dogs and kids. Can easily be done in hour and half including taking some time to rest at the top. Their is a section with a good amount of stairs but it’s not overwhelming. Trail is dry and have an amazing view at the top.

The second half of the trail is all stairs (about 520 in total) up to the summit. It is not that difficult and has a couple spots to sit and rest. The top is gorgeous and you can see 360° of the Matanuska Valley. I saw several mothers walking with their young kids (3-5 years old) and several people with dogs at the summit. Make sure you walk down the way you came up. If you don’t you will be about a 4 mile walk from your vehicle.

Completed May 11. Trail was dry. Not super crowded like it normally is, probably due to the overcast conditions, though we did luck out w/ sun at the top, and wind whippin through.

Went the weekend of April 27th. The weather was great. I didn’t see any snow but the trails were a little muddy. At the top it was breezy but not TOO windy. Definitely recommend this hike. However, do not do another hike before this one because your quads and booty will be burning with all the steps to the top! Not too challenging.

Highly recommended if you want a nice little workout up to an amazing view. Glacier view and always love the mountain views. Trail was muddy in spots but perfect for 95% of it. Tourist or visitors would love it.

Beautiful views! Took my time up the stairs, came back down the dirt side and realized we were at a different parking lot than our car. Lesson learned

Short and sweet hike with gorgeous views at the top. The stairway is pretty narrow and very muddy. There is a section that you have to use the rope to pull yourself up over some rocks, but it’s nothing too strenuous. Will definitely get your heart rate up for a minute.
