Needed a little climb to prepare for Mount Roberts so this was close and easy to access. Pleasantly surprised that there were boardwalks over a lot of the boggy area. Didn't find the "top" of trail but enjoyed the sights in between. Even saw a yearling? black bear!

About halfway up the maintenance ends on the trail and the eternal bog starts! Just when you think you are out... You sink back in! Steady incline all the way to the summit. Be prepared for a lot of mud, watch your footing as some spots can get very slick. Because of this I suggest that you should be more than a novice hiker or Sunday stroller. The view at the summit is very rewarding. Once in the meadows be on the lookout for trail markers in the forms of ribbons! The trail will disappear and you will stray even if there is a trail!

This is a good out and back trail with steady incline on the way out. We walked about 1.5 miles out and got a nice view of Auke Bay before we turned back. The trail is well maintained and the small rivers along the way offer nice nature sounds and little breaks from the intense green of SE Alaska.
