Very little mud and definitely bring bug spray. Plenty of game trails crossing the path and signs of bear activity. Easy trail with a great view

Beautiful view. First mile was very muddy. Second mile was dry and over grown, lots of mosquitos! Bug spray and xtratuffs are definitely a necessity.

Beautiful hike! The road from the east end wasn’t bad AT ALL The trail was kind of muddy the first quarter of a mile at the beginning of the hike but we were able to sneak around most of it. The view was breathtaking. We did see a momma black bear and 3 cubs a few miles down the road past the trailhead (we went to the lookout spot for pics) We were armed and had a few cans of bear spray but had no encounters on the trail. I will definitely be doing this hike again!

Beautiful trail with breathtaking views. Would recommend but at the moment you need 4WD to get to the trail head. If you don’t have 4WD use the east entrance but it’s still questionable.

Just went on this hike today and it was an awesome sunny day! The trail was very muddy but it was worth the view at the top! The road getting to the trail was also very questionable.

Views are amazing at the top. Tons of berries and it is thick on the way up in the summer. Definitely worth the reward. Would do it again.

In late summer, trail can be a bit overgrown with bushy branches or grasses, but long pants protect the legs and ankles. The fireweed was amazing! Millions and zillions of seeds were in flight giving a magical feel to the vibrant Nature: lake, forest, sky, and serene quiet. The lake shone that amazing blue color (rock flour, which is ground glacier, so fine that it is suspended in the water and shines that glacier-blue in the sun). The hike is on the easier end of moderate and COMPLETELY worth the effort to that big rock at the lookout; great spot to spread out a picnic and take in the magnificence.

Gradual incline to spectacular views of skilak lake. We were the only ones on the trail on our way up. No signs of bears but we did see some ptarmigans. Saw three more hiking pairs on our way down. Trail was clear and well maintained. Very buggy so bring bug spray.

Well maintained trail. There are lots of roots on the trail, but otherwise a very easy trail. The incline is a slow and not overly taxing.

Went first week of June. Really enjoyed it. Roughly 2.5hrs round trip-- spent some time at the top taking in the jaw-dropping view. Very steep. Still muddy at parts. Very worth it. Sprinkled some so a rainbow greeted us on our descent. Saw two moose on the drive back to the main road. Warning: road to trailhead has many potholes and rocks; the going is slow.

Trail is a bit muddy in areas with some standing water and run off. Other than that a great hike with wonderful views.

Still some slick ice and snow, and a good deal of mud. Picture perfect weather and not another soul on the trail on a Saturday afternoon. Great lake views along most of the trail. Almost 360 degree views at the top. Road was a little bit rough and rutted around mile 4. Trail was easy to follow.

Kinda muddy, but so worth it!! The view from the top is amazing!! I definitely recommend this trail. Bring your gun and or bear spray we did see what looked like a bear paw print in the mud.

Amazing views at the end, very muddy and buggy for parts along the way. Nice gradual incline. We went a little past the main viewpoint to the top on a clear day, and could make out Denali in the distance (oppose direction of the lake).
