Ship Creek Trail is a 5.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Anchorage, Alaska that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, running, and road biking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This is a great trail during salmon season, and it has nice colors in the fall. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved asphalt and typically at least six feet wide. The estimated grade is steep, with multiple sections (starting at 1.2 miles) with a 12% grade or higher. The other very steep sections (12% or higher) can be found at 1.6 miles and 2.6 miles. Wheelchair/mobility equipment or stroller users may need assistance in these sections or to turn around.
I think the prime time to do this walk is right when the leaves start changing colors. Most of it is dead now. It was nice. Stroller friendly. Pretty. I just think it would be even better if I went even just last week
First time on the trail. I thoroughly enjoyed the trail. There was snow and ice on the trail but was still able to run the entire trail. Very pretty and the terrain is very manageable. Would strongly recommend this as a year-round trail.
Low trail, beautiful views of Ship creek and wildlife. I planned to go farther, but came across a seemingly permanent camp on the hatchery side of the road, felt uncomfortable, opted out and returned. Did pass a bag on a bench with bras and pajamas spilling out of it. Other than those two things, the trail is beautiful. I enjoy that it’s beauty is tucked behind the industrial setting, and is accessible to showcase. Tide was going out- it was neat to hear all the ice crackling.
