I biked the from the Russian river camp ground to the cooper trailhead. then snug harbor rd back to rrcg. no car shuttle. if coming the opposite way, it's a big climb up snug to the cooper trailhead. the trail was in great shape, except between apsen flats and ressurection. either super overgrown, washed out (some bits were super washed out. i was standing in the middle of the trail, at the bottom of the washout, and the actual trail was at chest level) or straight up mud pits. either ends of the trail were great though. It's super beary to begin with. and the overgrown-ness made it feel even more beary. trailhead to trailhead took 6-7 hours. I'd do it again, but before it can get overgrown. or maybe early fall when it starts to die back. the dispersed camp sites are big enough for 1 tent. I didn't see a single other person on the trail. aside from the people between the rrcg and rr falls trail.

This is a great hike, if you happen to be in this area of Kenai. The hike to the upper lake is well worth the effort. The trail continues well beyond the upper lake. I might map it and log it on All Trails the next time I am in the area. This is an area with LOTS of bears! Be aware!

While you are doing this hike, take the slight detour, and see Russian River Falls. The falls are nothing spectacular, but this is where the salmon move upstream, and where lots of bears go to feed on them.

Beautiful ⛰

in all honesty we didn't hike the trail. we hiked down to the river from the campground, not using the paved area to get to the river. went salmon fishing, saw bears eating down below where we were fishing. the hike we took to the river was down the side of the gorge, at a good 60 degree down angle if not more, and had a blast going to and getting from the river to fish for salmon.

A rainy day, but great. At the river/waterfall, we saw the spawning salmon swimming up the falls!

Wife, daughter and I were camping in another campground and decided to do this one in order to see the falls. We enjoyed the environment. Paths were very clean and easy to identify and walk on. We reached the falls which we thought were going to be slightly bigger but like them nonetheless. We also too another trail that was labeled for a fishing area and got to see the lower river area too. Weather was good and just a cool little trail to hike.

Very easy trail. I loved taking the trail to the river and watching the salmon try to jump the falls against the stream. Paved and fairly easy and you can park at the camp grounds.

Excellent hike starting from the campground and up to the waterfalk continuing down along the russian river where we ran into a bear! a few stones were thrown and off it went. we carried bearspray just in case. lovely scenic hike with a lot of flowers.

This beautiful trail takes along the Russian River past Upper and Lower Russian Lakes. Between the two lakes on a few occasions I've left the trail to see Skilak Glacier. Lots of bear on this trail and the mosquitos are vicious.
