Had a great trip from Hope to Cooper Landing. 2 days on fat tire bikes with one flat in Devils Canyon. Make sure you have a pump and patches for your tubes or a extra tube. The Trail was extremely overgrown from Juneau Falls to Cooper Landing and very muddy.
Did this last week, we took our time, went for 5 days. 10/5/10/5/10 miles per day. Trail conditions weren't great last week, lots of rain, so it was super muddy, did a lot of jumping and swerving around puddles. But all together an AWESOME experience. Lots of bear sign last week, but no bear sightings. Very few people on the trail, less than 10 total in 5 days.
Great way to experience the Alaska terrain. Extremely well maintained trail, not too busy, good 40 miles, and not too tough. Lots of fish to catch at lakes and creeks.
What a phenomenal experience. We hiked from Hope to Cooper Landing, and only saw a few other hikers the whole 3 days. We encountered several groups of bikers headed the other direction. Hiked 12ish miles the first day to Fox Creek Cabin, 15ish miles the second day to Swan Lake Cabin, and 13ish miles the third day to complete the trail. Conditions were great, tons of flies everywhere but that is the only complaint. Berries to snack on, gorgeous views, and fun fishing in the lakes.
Very buggy when camping, a lot of mud. Did it from hope to cooper landing in 2.5 days. Camped at devils creek area in the pass and just past romig cabin. Caught a trout at Swan lake, the cabins were awesome, we did not stay at them. Was a great time! Construction near copper landing, trail work near trout and Juneau lake
Hiked 7/26-7/30. stayed at the Juneau and Fox Creek cabins. Trail and cabins were wonderful. There were a few muddy spots but not bad enough or frequent enough to require gaiters. Cabins were in good order as well. The only real negative was the flies, so many flies. It was like something out of a horror movie and nothing would make them go away; they bite too.
Very muddy after rainy day. A bit overgrown. Amazing views at Juneau Falls
Hiked this 6/22-6/25 with a group of parents and youth. What a fantastic trail!! Hiked from Cooper Landing to Hope. Overall trail was good, muddy in some spots but not to bad; ran into several bikers along the way, several hikers and one runner. Signs of bear up in the pass and back down into the trees but never actually saw one. Mileage was: day 1 (10 miles), day 2 (12 miles), day 3 (9 miles), day 4 (8 miles). Mosquitos were rough first few days and then died down. Hiking towards the pass, you come upon one cabin near Devil’s pass, and then head towards Resurrection Pass; that whole section felt like the longest pass ever to walk through!! That for me was the roughest part, besides just being tired. Would do it all over again!!
6/26/2020: Ran the entire thing in 9 hours. Smooth trail. Beautiful campsites and cabins, and amazing views coming into Swan and Juneau lakes. A few trees down across the trail on the Hope side and a little muddy on the Cooper landing side but nothing impassable. Tree fall warning still in place in the burnouts along Swan Lake. Saw multiple piles of bear scat and one black bear, very active bear area. Mace or a firearm is a must have for this hike. One for the books!
Backpacked Res Pass from Hope to Cooper Landing with my teen daughter a couple weekends ago. We saw a black bear about 1.5 miles in, but otherwise few signs of bears. Plenty of marmots up above the tree line. We underestimated the way up and probably should have planned about 8 miles a day with ~30 lb packs -- the back side was far easier. The campsites are all nice and were mostly empty, but we did "leapfrog" with another group going the same way, plus met plenty of cyclists, runners, etc. along the way. It was nice to have solitude and space but not be too far from other humans. We got caught in a hailstorm toward the end of a hard day up above the treeline, where there were no campsites or trees to hang a bear bag from, so that was pretty brutal; however, the trip was amazing and would totally do it again.
Trail in good shape overall. Biked from Hope to Cooper Landing. Free of snow in all sections. Muddy due to recent rainfall in the burn area.
Just completed the hike from Hope to Cooper Landing. Little snow in the pass and lots of mud on the south side of Juneau Lake. Left on a Friday night and hiked 4 miles in to the first campsite. Then ~12 miles a day, stopping at the last camp site before the pass on day 2 and then Juneau Lake on day 3. Final day was ~9 miles to the Cooper Landing trailhead. The campsite at Juneau Lake is not really marked anymore due to the controlled burns but there are places to set up a tent around the lake.
We completed Resurrection Pass Trail Cooper Landing to Hope. We started at 7 PM on Friday, May 22 and we finished around 10:30 PM on Saturday, May 23. We camped on Friday night at a campsite just past Juneau Lake. We used maps.me for GPS, which mapped the total distance at about 36 miles. It was a beautiful hike and we really enjoyed it. There are 15-20 snow patches near the pass summit that involve some post-holing. None are very big, however, and the hike is definitely traversable without snowshoes/ crampons. Gaiters/ ankle boots would be recommended, but I anticipate that the rest of the snow will melt off soon.
