Tried the get to peak 3 in all summer gear. we decided against it as the last 100 feet or so were covered in snow still, at least on the south side. Saw a couple with trekking poles get up it so definitely do-able. We had to do some trail blazing, but it was fun

I went up peak 3, then across to peak 2, then did a side hop to flat top. Had a blast! 5.8 miles round trip. You’ll definitely earn every foot you take. Bring kahtoolas and a basic ice axe. A few other hikers, and lots of skiers. Very gorgeous winter time loop if you’re properly geared.

I enjoyed this hike! I did it in the rain, and finished in the dark.. I don't recommend doing either if newish to hiking. I missed the split off the Backside of Flattop trail, and had to cross soaking wet subalpine tundra to get to the trail that ascends Peak 3. so my feet were wet and frozen early on. Be on the lookout for the unmarked trail breaking off to the right! The views are incredible, even in the rain. The trail from Peak 3 to Peak 2 is non-existent or a sheep path in some places and there is some knife edge traversing. Because of this, the hike should probably be rated as hard/difficult to ensure people who aren't familiar or comfortable with this kind of terrain are warned. I will be back to do this hike again, and link Flattop as well!

Peak Three was amazing! We took the “long” way up via the saddle (you come up on the saddle just shy of Peak Two), and were glad we did, since it’s a steep trail! Slippery and loose in places so bring poles and exercise caution. But the views were good the whole way, even from the trailhead, and the saddle and peak were mesmerizing!

Steep hike up the front with no switch backs. Easy to lose the train from Peak 3 to Peak 2. Stunning views. Fun to look down on Flattop.
