Sep 20, 2016 - This is a very easy trail with barely any elevation gain. It's massively over-crowded, but the only way to get to the falls by foot. Rangers stopped a bunch of us to allow a black bear and cubs cross the trail. Eagles are flying around the area grabbing salmon where they can. We even saw a little porcupine. It looked like the kayaks were the best method of getting close to the glacier. There's also a trail on the other side of the bay, but we couldn't find anyone who knew about it enough to take us there. We also didn't have enough time before the cruise ship left port.
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Easy trail for any age.
Short, out and back trail along the shores of Mendehall Lake. Wonderful views of the lake, glacier, and surrounding mountains. Trail is relatively flat and well-maintained. Seems to be wheelchair and kid friendly. Ends at Nugget Falls on east end of Mendehall Lake.
A simple walk with beautiful scenery. Don't forget to watch the mountain sides for mountain goats!
Short trail, gravel. Made to be accessible to tourists, but the views are amazing and you end up right at the falls.
A bunch to see here. I actually went mostly on "Trail of Time" when I was there but this trail is very close. The falls and glacier are spectacular. The abundance of nutrition that exists in these forests is unreal. No wonder the native tlingits never had a word for starvation.
This is an amazing trail! Very easy and quick and even in the rain it is worth it. Nugget Falls is a thunderous cascade next to the beaultiful Mendenhall Glacier. A must-see if you are in Juneau. If you have time, also check out the Trail of Time behind the Visitor's Center. It's another interesting interpretative trail.
A very easy walk, or bike ride. During the summer, many tourists are on the trail, although only those with a little adventure make it to the falls. And I mean a little.. It's one of the easiest walks in Juneau.
This is a quick and easy trail to get to the waterfall next to Mendenhall Glacier. Beautiful hike. I did it in April so there was still plenty of snow which made it all the more enjoyable once it cleared up on the beach. The view of the glacier and waterfall make this hike outstanding.
