Mount Ripinsky Summit from Skyline Trailhead is a 7.9 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Haines, Alaska that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and bird watching and is best used from June until August.

First to ReviewThis trail is beautiful in all aspects and results in one of the best payoffs you can imagine. The rail starts steep and remains fairly steep the majority of the way. We started at the 7 mile saddle and planned to summit 3902 which is a higher peak behind my ripinski. We started in the woods (bring bug spray) and kept climbing until we reached fields of weeds that you take a small track trail through to reach the meadow before the summit. You reach the meadow at a little over 2500 feet I believe. From there it is a about a mile and 1400 more feet until the summit. Once you reach the top the views are ridiculous. I have been hiking many places including Yosemite and all over Colorado and the mountains here were more expansive than anything I have ever seen. It was one jagged peak after another as far as the eye can see with great views of the fjords and the emerald blue glacier fed waters shimmering in the sun. The way down is tough due to the steep trail so if you have poles bring them. It was 3.4 miles to the top with about 3500 feet of elevation gain give or take. If you get the chance to hike this on a clear day don’t miss the chance.
