Awesome trail with great views! Very windy above the tree line. Definitely bring a map - many offshoots that you could easily get lost on. Overall super fun hike
Parking was a little hard. There is a patch of gravel parking about 3-4 houses left of the trail we saw a lot of people park there but it’s definitely unmarked parking and we are not sure if that’s legal. We parked at our Airbnb downtown and walked (about 10 min) from downtown to this trailhead. The trail was a little muddy with the mist/rain in the morning but mostly good condition (sept 20). It took us 2 hours to go up but we stopped at various places to take photos. There are lots of Devils Clubs at the beginning of the trail which are so beautiful. We took the Jeep trail up & down but saw someone ran down the racer trail (looked doable but probably would be best with gators). The incline was no joke. First mile was pretty moderate hard, then some flat lands thru the tree lines to the tundra section, and then lots of incline of rocks. Definitely doable just take it slow. We had lunch at the top and the cloud came in and became a little cold. Some of the hikers we met told us they spotted two black bears one at the top and one in the bowl of the mountain by the stream but both were skittish and ran away. We saw some dall sheep on the cliffs facing the fjords. Coming back down took just as much time bc it was wet. I’d plan 6 hours out n back if you aren’t super fit runner with giant leg muscles...
Harder than hard... recommend going down the scree but challenging both ways.
Beautiful but windy at the top. Trail is steep and gets narrow towards top. Rocky. Just make it past the first 30 minutes and it gets much less steep.
Solid hike. Hike up was pretty bushy and muddy. Moderate to steep include up to the bowl. The ridge-line wasn’t bad at all. Top was beautiful! Be careful of the cliff though. Took the front side down and wound up going down a very wooded trail instead of the main trail. So... stay to the right. Enjoy!
Great hike. The way up was pretty easy. Rain hit us at the top and had a hard time getting down. Ended up sliding down most of the mountain. Towards the end you reach a river route. It was very dangerous in wet conditions. Besides that the trip was awesome. Would recommend doing again.
Amazing hike, we did the hiking trail on the way up and the race on the way down. It’s a crazy controlled fall most of the way down. Definitely recommend!
Beautiful view, very challenging going down using all trail map the whole way.
Trail was overgrown before you leave the tree line. Once it opens up it’s not bad. I however wouldn’t take the race way down because the last quarter of the trail is quite dangerous. Absolutely amazing view from the top though. Top five in Alaska for me!
Went on this “trail” two years ago with my brother. After the tree line I honestly don’t know if we were even on a trail. We got very lost but made our to a BEAUTIFUL valley and then climbed the ridges to the top. Up there it was breath taking and one of if not the most beautiful views in the world. We ended up walking 14 miles in total because we were extremely lost and not on a trail so I have no clue how long the trail actually is.
