Once above the plant growth, it starts to climb moderately through somewhat rocky terrain. From the top, one can see a good view of Eagle River Valley and the surrounding mountains.

We went up the back side of the mountain, we had our four year old with us.( Through the red gate) The trail was a bit hard to follow, we ended up just kind of forging our own way. We took a few breaks but I would say going up the back was moderate hike that starts out as more of a walk and depending which trail you follow it may even fall into the easy category.
We went down the front side of the mountain. This way is much steeper and if it had been more muddy it would have been much more difficult. It wasn't hard for us going down it, just watched our step and took our time.
It took us roughly four hours. We saw almost no one going up the back way but coming down the front there was a good amount of people.

This was a wonderful hike. It was busy today. We started by taking the gate to the right not the red gate. To the right takes you start up the mountain face. At this time it is muddy and Icy. A section of the mountain is icy and a little dicey trying to hold your grip. At the top the view makes it all worth it. Loved being able to see the cities in one view and then the beautiful mountains in the other. We chose to take the route on the back side of the mountains that headed down to the abandoned homestead. That route was safer then going back down the face of the mountain at this time due to the ice. Along this route we experienced about a half a mile of an icy path. At one point I found it easier and faster to just sit on my butt and slide down. (Definitely fun). The homestead was interesting and would be awesome to know the history behind it. Enjoy the hike we loved it.

Slushy below treeline as of 4/21. Northern trail to peak still has spotty snow, but looks to be clearing soon. beautiful vistas and terrain to explore at peak; unfortunately you can still hear traffic from the top. Blacktails still covered in snow.

Family and I decided to hike this trail on a whim one Saturday. We brought the dogs on a leash and enjoyed the climb and especially the views!

Popular trail since its right in Eagle River, a lot of activities are done from this mountain, a lot of times during sunny days in the summer you will have paragliders flying around which make it a neat experience. Be careful when the ground is wet, this climb is especially slippery once you begin the steep section near the top half.
